() Date: June 19, 2022 07:21AM Checking adjustments on Carb last night I found the fast idle cam screw is stripped. Is there a time cert or helicoil small enough to do this? Correct me if I'm wrong, but i have 7/32 x 28 tpi. for screw size. OR....another idea beside changing out the carb body? () Date: June 19, 2022 07:46AM According to my screw chart if it is indeed 7/32" in diameter that would be a #12 machine screw. Re: Question about Carb repair. Posted by:

() Date: June 19, 2022 05:45PM Going to try a tap tool first. Not sure if there is enough material to repair the threads that way. If that doesn't work, I have another carb bottom. 65 Monza Coupe 61 500 Coupe-W100181 Earliest '61 Alive? Re: Question about Carb repair. Posted by:

() Date: June 19, 2022 09:21PM if it was 7/32 stripped maybe tap for 8/32 or drill and tap for 10/32 and keep the otherwise good working matching carb bottom. new spring and screw should be available at most hardware stores. our tap chart here on the wall doesn't show 7/32 sorry Rod Tetrault El Cajon , CA 65 Corsa Yenko Clone / 65 Corsa EO Creampuff Vert 66 Corsa "JIMISH" Mid engine Turbo LS1 currently 2nd fastest Corvair in the USA Corvair powered Buggy x 3 Enough hidden parts to build a space ship ![]() Re: Question about Carb repair. () Date: June 20, 2022 07:42AM ??? #12-24 machine screw takes a #16 drill bit which is .1770. Murphy is measuring the outside dia. of the fastener at 7/32" or .2188 Both 8-32 and 10-32 are a smaller size fastener. As the first number goes up, so does the screw diameter. Unlike sheet metal and wire gauge. Re: Question about Carb repair. Posted by:

() Date: June 20, 2022 10:09AM I have soldered on the appropriate sized nut when something like (steel) throttle linkage gets striped out. Unfortunately sometimes the threaded portion is in the non-ferrous carb body that obviously can't be soldered to. It would be a pain to adjust but if one lacked solder skills they could used a nut on either side to lock the screw once set. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ***'61 Lakewood, a "Freebie" in hibernation for 27 years - In the process of applying CPR.*** Re: Question about Carb repair. I missed the x28tpi 6/32 8/32 10/32 He might get lucky with an M5 screw Rod Tetrault El Cajon , CA 65 Corsa Yenko Clone / 65 Corsa EO Creampuff Vert 66 Corsa "JIMISH" Mid engine Turbo LS1 currently 2nd fastest Corvair in the USA Corvair powered Buggy x 3 Enough hidden parts to build a space ship ![]() Re: Question about Carb repair. () Date: June 20, 2022 04:59PM I had to order a tap tool for this. Be here in a day or so. I'll try to repair the threads first. Murphy 65 Monza Coupe 61 500 Coupe-W100181 Earliest '61 Alive? Re: Question about Carb repair. Posted by:

() Date: June 20, 2022 06:06PM Metal type epoxy. J B Weld, Plastic Steel, the stuff you cut and mash together out of a cigar type tube. Fill hole, grease that bolt and screw in gently. Let dry. When cured, remove screw and install again with the fast idle cam. Frank DuVal Fredericksburg, VA Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/20/2022 06:07PM by Frank DuVal. Re: Question about Carb repair.
