() Date: June 01, 2022 06:39AM I want to remove the generator in my 64 110hp sedan. It has the large fan/pulley. If factory original and not rebuilt, would the nut holding the fan on come off CW or CCW? I understand that not all armatures are the same. I don't believe this part has been rebuilt. () Date: June 01, 2022 06:59AM All original Corvair generator armatures have left-hand threads. That would be CW looking at the end of the shaft to remove. But, if the armature was replaced by a regular GM front engine car (seen it) then it could be a right-hand thread nut. BTW, do not place a screwdriver in the "fan" blades of the pulley to hold the pulley still, you will bend and quite possibly break the blade. We all had to learn this unless we saw the other person do it! ![]() Alternators all have right-hand threads. And they also have that nice Allen hole in the shaft to hold them still. () Date: June 01, 2022 07:33AM Give it a quick hit with an impact gun, see which way works. Or stick your fingernail in any exposed threads, "if there" then turn the armature and see which way moves your finger to the end of the shaft. () Date: June 01, 2022 10:20AM Can't give it a hit with an impact gun because it's still on the car. Can't remove it without getting the fan off to give access to bolt in back. In the end, it cam off easily turning it CW since the last guy didn't get it all that tight. Appreciate the help, guys!
