() Date: May 31, 2022 10:54PM I initally listed this motor for sale last October and had over 1000 views but no buyers. Now that the Covid panic has diminished, I'm re-listing it again at a reduced price. This motor has been built to 1965 specs. (no lock-outs on secondary’s). The original crankcase (RB code) was damaged years ago and has been replaced with a 110 (RD code). Crankshaft: Nitrided 140 crank, Std. / Std. polished, new standard bearings, Plastigage clearances are well within ‘new’ specs. Pistons: Clark’s Hi Tech +.040” Rings: Moly Rods: Wet mag, resize and align Cylinders: GM, bored +.040 by Clarks Cam: Original ‘891’ first design. (has slightly more lift than 304 cam). Lifters, Rockers & Springs: New Clarks Flywheel: NOS Dale Alternator: New, 65 Amp. single wire Fuel pump: New, Clarks Distributor: Pertronix (basic) module, stock coil. Weights, springs, cam, & vacuum adv. are all 140 parts. Oil pan: Custon cast aluminum by MOORE. Similar to OTTO. Since this engine only had approx. 80K miles on it, the cylinder heads were in pretty good shape, (no signs of overheating). I did heat the heads in a oven to 450 deg. and check the valve seats for tightness--they were all very tight. (Note: I have seen 'deep seats' fall out at 450 deg. because they weren't installed properly.) The intake valve guides were still in spec. but I did replace the exhaust guides with bronze from Clark's. I milled the heads .020" then cc'd the chambers to check compression ratio. It checked out at 9.0:1. NOTE: A.I.R. (smog) type manifolds. These are internally identical to std. 140 manifolds. The added external passages to accommodate the air injection have been blocked off. I used them because they are like new and the original 140 manifolds were in bad shape. They have been coated with ceramic paint and heat cured. All engine shrouds are included, including lower shrouds with good, used thermostats. Both left & right side new muffler brackets are included. Engine has been bench tested and tuned and is road ready. Clutch assembly, Starter, Exhaust system: Not included Engine is on a pallet with a completely enclosed wood cover. Price: $5500 Plus shipping. (Core or core deposit not required) PM me for more information and shipping options. () Date: June 01, 2022 09:58AM I'm interested in a rebuilt 140 for my Corsa. 80,000 miles seems like a lot of mileage for a Corvair engine to me. Am I correct seeing from your description that your "rebuilt" 140 has used heads lacking new deep seats, no new valves, no new guides and an absence of any machine work such as re-surfaced head gasket areas? Also am I correct by reading your description your "rebuilt" 140 has a used crankshaft (not magged for cracks) and a used camshaft, used cam gear, used oil pump and used fan bearing? With all due respect, before spending $5500.00 I'd like to be certain of what seems to be lacking here to truly make it "rebuilt". Thank you, Fred K. () Date: June 01, 2022 03:32PM Hello Fred K. Good to hear from you again--you asked the same questions the last time I posted this engine for sale. There is a difference between a Rebuilt engine and a Re-manufactured engine. The valves I used were low mileage with no valve stem wear. They will last just as long as new valves. The valve springs, of course, are new as are the lifters and rocker arm assemblies. I used the 891 camshaft not because I'm cheap but I hate the 304 cam and I have driven a brand new 1965 Corsa with the 891 cam so I know the difference. Replacing valve seats is no guarantee that you won't have any valve seat problems. In fact, in my experience, you are more likely to have problems. I was testing valve seats in a pair of 95 hp heads--heating them in a oven for 4 hours. When I pulled one of the heads out and dropped it on the bench, both seats fell out from one of the cylinders. They were 'deep seats' while all the factory installed seats were still tight. The cylinder heads I used in this engine came from a friend of mine and they all tested OK. If you're expecting new heads and crankshaft in a rebuilt Corvair engine, lots of luck. GM stopped producing those parts 50 years ago. LOL You ask a lot of expensive questions for being "cheep". Tom's engine should easily last 100,000 miles - barring abuse / stupidity. Oil pumps: my limited experience; Corvair oil pumps last "forever" - with clean oil. The pump cover may need to be replaced (or sanded smooth) because of wear - to maintain correct clearance. Do you expect someone to sell the engine you describe for 5K? Re: TURN KEY 140 HP REBUILT ENGINE F0R SALE Posted by:

() Date: June 01, 2022 05:17PM I hear that Van Gogh used cheap paints sometimes and repaired and reused canvasses. Should go to someone who recognises the value of an engine hand built by a Corvair legend. Tom, you should sell 200 tickets for $50 each and raffle it off shipped. I would take at least two for the chance of that arriving on my doorstep. Darrin Darrin Hartzler Bethesda, MD/Catlett, VA Northern Virginia Corvairs & Group Corvair Edited 1 time(s).
