Yes, the radio needs that to operate as a mono radio. It is a jumper plug. I do not know the pinout.

If it's pretty basic to old GM I'm sure you can find somebody reproducing it. Have you tried Retrosound?

Thank you Seth! Those old Sam's Photofacts contain lots of good info.smileys with beer

I thought the outer 9 pins were the same spacing/dimension as a miniature 9 pin tube, now I'm not so sure. Of course to get a 9 pin miniature tube base one would need to break a glass tube just right...sad smiley

Or take apart a socket saver.

This is IF the spacing/dimension is right. Have a 9 pin tube around to see?

Pretty sure I had seen those jumper plugs being sold on Evil-Bay a while back.
Someone was making them. One could also get some PC board, cut a disk out with a hole saw, mark it drill it and press pins through the holes and solder the pins per the schematics.

The cool thing about the "jumper plug" is that it gives the opportunity to plug in an external source, like an MP3 player, and have the sounds (in mono) play through the existing radio. No changes or soldering, just pull the jumper and plug the special cable in. It has a 3.5mm jack at the other end that, unless something is plugged in, jumps and performs the same as the original jumper and the radio just plays. Of course, the sound quality is limited to that of the original radio and speaker(s).

I'd contact Fred Bybee (Fred's Classic Radios). He's a Corvair guy and had rebuilt dozens if not hundreds of these AM/FM radios. No doubt he's scrapped a few that were too far gone.
