You mentioned the valve seat bits getting everywhere.
I had a valve seat blow to smithereens in a race engine with a 6-tube 4-barrel. I replaced the head and had a bad noise. Removed the replacement head again and found a valve seat bit in an adjacent cylinder. Somehow that bit traveled up the 16" tube into the plenum and then back down again into another tube. I suppose since it was an intake valve that blew up, the cylinder pressure helped blow it uphill but even so...

I had a call recently from someone in KC that was contemplating buying a dune buggy with a Corvair engine to install the powertrain in a Renault Dauphine. He thought maybe it was a Corvair differential, transmission and rear suspension but wasn't sure. Interesting project with a steep learning curve. I always thought the Renaults were cool, the Archer Brothers from Duluth had a 2 car team of them ice racing back in the day. The Archers went on to Trans-Am Vipers and other big time endeavors.

There's a Corvair-Powered Dauphine in a Junkyard not even a mile from my house!
Its got a Corvair rear suspension, and had a 1960 drivetrain in it.

After way too many homeowner duties I'm back on Corvairs.

The head cleaned up and certainly looks like a runner so far.

Hope to have it running on the ground by Friday or Saturday.

There is a Dauphine a few blocks from my house that previously had a 1960 Corvair drivetrain. It'd be a HUGE project to get it back on the road, but its there.

I've resurrected a number of engines from the dead. It's easy to get SO MUCH TIME in there. It's a big disappointment when you've got $1500 in an engine that doesn't pan out.
It's one thing when I'm throwing away my own time but quite another when I'm paying an assistant.
Also the parts even just for gaskets and such really add up these days.

Tomorrow I'll take it off the engine stand.

In preparation for starting it on the floor

I lied it's not off the engine stand yet.

Everything is temporary for a floor run.

Now carb, ignition, and fuel pump done.

Off engine stand hang transaxle manana.

Question and comment:

Q: What's with the goofy pulley where the gen/alt is supposed to be? I've never seen anything like it.

C: Don't forget the vertical shrouds. The engine will run hot without them.

Fun project!
