() Date: May 15, 2022 07:31AM I hope the rebuild of the car goes easily for your car. I remember the car too after seeing the pic Mike provided. I wish you good luck returning it to its' former glory. If you want to remove the door for ease of installation just trace the outer edge of both door hinges to pillar on pass side door before removal. Then you can replace door to those outlines and alignment will be easy or not necessary at all. best wishes, Steve Rear Engine Spec. Inc. () Date: May 19, 2022 01:50PM Guessing the father-in-law was a wood worker? Car cleaned up nicely! There are numerous ways to tie the rear wheels together while the drivetrain is out, so car can be moved around. I like Rex Johnson's best. [corvaircenter.com] Scott Danville, In. () Date: May 20, 2022 09:00PM He was a wood worker, it sat in his garage and saw many projects completed. My father in law owned a front end/alignment shop and worked 6 days a week his entire life, I don’t think he ever had the energy to get back to the Corvair. Little update, got the engine all tore down, all eight pistons were seized and needed a lot of convincing to get out. I have plans to get the transmission and rearend rebuilt this summer and if that can get done, then will get the motor rebuilt and put back together. In the meantime, plan to pull and replace radiator and all hoses, as well as fuel tank. Then tackle brakes. Re: Just inherited a 66 Crown Conversion Posted by:

() Date: May 21, 2022 10:34AM Please seriously think about a C5 differential conversion. A lot more work but you will be able to bang the clutch!! Cost wont be much more considering what Vair diff needs. With everything you can do ($$$) it's still a 6 7/8" ring gear. Re: Just inherited a 66 Crown Conversion Posted by:

() Date: June 02, 2022 09:55PM Hello Wayne, sorry I didn’t see this earlier. This is Jay’s car. Thank you for your offer, not sure if I need it. Not sure what I need yet. Did you know this car? Do you have any knowledge about why he parked it? I have a lead on someone who can rebuild the transmission and transaxle. Re: Just inherited a 66 Crown Conversion Posted by:

I did the butcher job of drilling two holes in each hinge the size of a welding rod. Then it was easy to get them back in place by sticking a piece of rod in each hole. () Date: June 03, 2022 01:06PM Jay told me years ago that he had a four spider differential for it. I don’t know if he got it in or not. He also told me he had velvet touch brakes shoes for it. He might have had a collection of parts for the car. I never got to see it , he always told me stuff was piled on it. Him and my dad were good friends.
