OT (ish): Leaded Gasoline - Another reason to be proud of the Corvair engine

One of the characteristics of the Corvair Air-cooled engine is that it does fine with unleaded gasoline, or at least much better than other engines from its era.

And this is why that's cool:

That's what the deep seats are for!

On a related note, what exactly is the "regular fuel" additive available today? Is it still lead or something else?

The most common octane additives today are Benzene, Toluene, Xylene, and Ethanol, although there is one more that I cant remember. These are collectively known as "aromatics".

Thanks Kevin,

I didn't know that beyond Ethanol. Actually though, I was trying to ask about the stuff you can buy at the Auto Parts Store, that says "for cars that require regular gasoline" and "get your old car's performance a boost!" And so on.
