() Date: May 02, 2022 08:13AM Oil on the clutch would be a likely cause of chatter. Unfortunately no matter what it is probably going to have to come out. Gary 1966 Corsa Convertible Northern New Jersey ![]() Re: Severe Clutch chatter ??? Posted by:

() Date: May 02, 2022 08:40AM Possibly lost material on clutch disc? Clutch adjustment / worn pins in clutch linkage? Might want to check motor mounts / cross member mounts, also. Re: Severe Clutch chatter ??? Posted by:

() Date: May 02, 2022 09:55AM I experienced some real bad chatter coming out of first gear when I initially got my four speed. Check the mounts between the body and the trans. I had loose and damaged bolts that were nearly ready to fall off. -------------------------------- Was a 1962 Monza Convertible Now a 1964 Spyder Clone/Tribute Santa Cruz/Northern CA -------------------------------- ![]() ![]() Re: Severe Clutch chatter ??? () Date: May 02, 2022 02:27PM Exploded clutch disk. I had this happen, and the resulting clutch chatter really was severe enough to shake the whole car. ------------------------------------ Kevin Nash Friday Harbor Washington 63 Spyder, Daily driver, EFI read about my project here: [corvaircenter.com] first test start on EFI here:[www.youtube.com] first official EFI boost test here:[www.youtube.com] My new fan! () Date: May 02, 2022 07:34PM I would like to think that Bob has seen the obvious loose or worn mounts/trans to support bolts loose and oil soaked disc facing. How about a couple of hidden possibilities? First the disc face is not straight with the center. It has a wobble. Not out of round but same as a bent wheel. Next is the diaphragm is not releasing even between the flywheel and the pressure block of the clutch cover. Good luck figuring it out. best wishes, Steve Rear Engine Spec. Inc. () Date: May 03, 2022 05:51AM I've sometimes had good luck with the old idea where you put the wheel against a curb, slip the clutch until it smokes, shut it off and walk away for at least 1/2 hour until it cools. Sort of extreme and risky but I've never had one get ruined. Knock on wood. I put a used still riveted flywheel/disc/pressure plate in my Van. It was not engaging smoothly but is maybe getting better with use. Jim Brandberg Isanti, MN CorvairRepair.com ![]() Re: Severe Clutch chatter ??? Posted by:

() Date: May 03, 2022 06:19AM happened twice to me. First time was a really bad pilot. Second was the trans motor mounts. The motor mount bolt rusted and the nut slid way down. With the mount it was worse in reverse J.O. 65 Corsa Turbo Vert 79 Honda XL 500S 69 Honda CL 160 D 2010 BMW F 650 GS 2003 Bounder 36D 2013 KIA Optima SX turbo-AKA ZIPPY (wife,s car) 69 Newport Holiday Sailboat Baja 150 dune buggy cart Coleman HS 500 UTV 2016 KIA Sorento SXL Turbo Bethlehem,Pa ![]() Re: Severe Clutch chatter ??? () Date: May 03, 2022 07:32AM on my rampside I changed the pilot bushing twice each time it was worn and the clutch always chattered , third time was the charm , the flywheel had 0.080 wobble runout not radial Roger R Madison Wi 62 ct pg turbo 65intercooled 180 4sp,autocrosser 62 Rampy Re: Severe Clutch chatter ??? () Date: May 03, 2022 05:18PM It has been my experience with the early's that all the mounts need to be in near perfect condition so the engine does not move fore and aft. The second thing is the horse collar body mounts, they also need to be good as they will also let the engine move. Ken Hand Handy Car Care 248 613 8586 Vairmech@aol.com Re: Severe Clutch chatter ??? () Date: May 09, 2022 06:46PM Did you do a recent clutch replacement? If so you could have a hard spot problem with the flywheel and or the pressure plate. The newer non asbestos discs dont like the possibly lumpy clutch / flywheel surfaces and will chatter. If this is the case refinishing the clutch/flywheel friction surfaces is the solution. ![]() Ray Johnson Villa Park IL 63 Spyder Conv. 140 EFI Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum. |
