() Date: February 12, 2022 05:44PM I've been trying to locate a driver door for a 63 convertible with little success (at least anywhere near enough to me to make it reasonable to get). The one I have is so rusty as to be beyond repair in the lower hinge area. In reading through some posts, someone mentioned converting a coup door over to convertible. Anyone have more information about that? Or a decent convertible door they don't need? I have all of the guts, just need the shell. Any help is appreciated! Re: Convert coup door to convertible? () Date: February 12, 2022 10:01PM The basic door shell is the same. I did it by sitting the two doors side by side and removing all the parts on the 2 door sedan door that did not look like the convertible door, such as the upper glass run/top of 2 door sedan door.. The door glass and vent glass, along with glass mechanisms are to be swapped too. Frank DuVal Fredericksburg, VA Re: Convert coup door to convertible? Posted by:

() Date: February 13, 2022 06:03AM As Frank said. I did it on a 64 many years ago. Jerry Murray Charleston, SC 63 Rampside, PG,110 65 Monza convertible, pg,ac,tele,am/fm Re: Convert coup door to convertible? Posted by:

() Date: February 13, 2022 10:42PM So, if I'm following this correctly, from the sheet metal down, they are the same? I have all the inner stuff from two convertible driver doors, the chrome around the vent window, everything. It's really as simple as a swap out? Cool. By the way, my name is Gary. Thanks for the help. This is my 1st Corvair, 63 Spyder Convertible, that really wasn't worth saving (as I have been told by several people), but here I am, three years later and ONE door away from ready to paint. This has been my COVID sanity project. Re: Convert coup door to convertible? Posted by:

() Date: February 13, 2022 10:44PM I have not. I'm really new to the Corvair community. Is he a member of this? Gary Southerland Re: Convert coup door to convertible? Posted by:

() Date: February 14, 2022 12:00PM I know that the door skins are different but never checked to see exactly what the differences are. The only reason that I am aware of this is that I had both coupe and convertible door skins, and when I looked up the part numbers, I realized that the coupe was different than the convertible. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Woodstock CT... () Date: February 14, 2022 02:12PM A welder is needed for the conversion, I do remember that, but just for some spot welds IIRC. Spot welds also need to be removed to get the upper steel part off the lower body section. The outer part of the skin is the same. Might be some of the folds at the window level are different. () Date: February 14, 2022 07:45PM I suggested that Jeff since you are east of the Mighty Mississippi. If you were west of the M M I would have suggested a different Jeff. Re: Convert coup door to convertible? Posted by:

() Date: February 15, 2022 09:36AM @ Junnkman..... The difference is most likely the holes punched in the skin for the out window fuzzy/window wipes. They are not in the same positions as the coupe doors. I Know this as we had done the wipes on a 63 convertible where the holes would not line up with the pins on the wipe. Took a minute to figure out was going on, but after a closer inspection it was discovered that the door was oringally a coupe door that had been modded for use in the vert. The vert window wipe is about an inch and half longer that a coupe due to the fact that window frame rail is not there on a vert.
