OT - Quiz; Identify the 7 Cars in this Photo
Posted by: vairsUPnorth ()

I found this 1968 photo [below] of the nation's first travel welcome center built by the Michigan State Highway Department in 1934-5 along US Hwy 12 about 1 mile north of the Indiana state line. The first car in the line (R to L) is pretty easy to identify but what about the rest?

I searched through Google images to confirm my first guesses. I got all but one of the makes and models correct the first time around but not the years.

Anybody else want to give it a go?

Right to left

62 Lakewood
65 Coupe de Ville
66 Galaxie 500 Xl
66 Sedan de Ville
63 Biscayne
64 Falcon

Last too blurry to tell what it is.

Am I close to right answers?

I thought that a '62 monza wagon's belt line trim went around the front and stopped in the front door? That trim looks to go all of the way to the back.

Because it's a two-door, post, convertible, coupe. That's all I could make out.

Definitely a 63 Bel Air or Biscayne. My guess would be Biscayne as that was the lowest of the 3 trims and the car in the photo has almost no chrome on it. The 63 Impalas had 3 taillights on each side with a silver painted cove that foreshadowed the silver cove on 65-66 Corsas.

The car that is sixth from left appears to me to be a 1964 Ford Fairlane. (in front of the '63 Chevy).

Well, you don't have to shout. Where does convertible or coupe come into this? confused smiley

Bel Air and Biscayne both came in 2 door sedan styles. Only difference is the amount of exterior trim, interior trim and insulation. They had the same engine, transmission, brake and steering options available.

Wagonmaster's comment was a joke if you really didn't notice.

How could ONE car be all of those things at once ? ? ? confused smiley
That must have been for Mark's benefit. winking smiley

I thought the last one on the left was about a 67 Ford. Just a wild guess but the roofline and area leading to the tail lights doesn't look like a Buick to me.
You are correct, it is a 61 700 Lakewood. Someone put a 62 wheel on the front and was disappointed that the cool bowtie trim rings wouldn't fit. I hope they didn't try it anyway and lose it.

Cleaned photo up a bit. For everyone to try again.

I chose the Biscayne because trunk was washed out in the sun, but left rear quarted showed no glint of having BelAir trim on left rear.

Someone said Buick Special. I'm looking at photos of 64 Buick Special and don't see any with rocker panel molding. Also, all seem to have a beltline trim of some sort. That is not evident in this photo. I'll offer that it COULD be a 64 Pontiac Tempest or Le Mans(?)

Enjoy the Corvair!

Sorry, meant to say second from left with '63 Chevy partially blocking it. Ford Fairlane. Further inspection...... Could also be Studebaker Lark (taillights). Far left, Buick Skylark?

NO I DID NOT! Get with correct quoting. You usually have great answers, why such crap now? Confuses new people researching data.

Now if you want to make the case of Corsa and Monza models being the same body styles, I do not agree, as the Monza came in 4 door style also. Not even sure there is any insulation difference in the trim options. There is no exterior lighting difference like there is between Impala and the lessor lines.
