Notice the chain fall to the extreme right side chained to the rafter. Perhaps this was simply moved to closest rafter and position needed to make the lifts.

They wouldn't have to be filled solid with concrete. If it were, it would be enormously heavy. Could have a hollow core IF concrete is involved.

Reminds me of when I was a kid.
My Dad built a large open-beam living room.
He and a couple fellows lifted a Forty Foot 12 X 12 beam onto two 55gal. drums and then raised it the rest of the way to the peak of our house (4 inches at a time) using 2X4 cribbing on top of the drums.

Single Empty steel drum can support something like 1800lbs before it will crush....if I recall correctly. Of course, evenly loaded / balanced.
