Wanted pictures of Original late trailer hitch
Posted by: sweet66monza ()
Date: November 17, 2021 05:41PM

Who has pictures of a correct original late model trailer hitch? I currently have two different style aftermarket ones. I am collecting parts for my futute 66 500 4 door and I think I want no options at all besides a trailer hitch, just because!

I am interested in purchasing an original as well for the collection.

Thanks as always!

I somehow missed Matt's post!

I was thinking the one on that 67 wasnt right, but also wasnt 100% sure. Looks like the original catches the license plate bolts I believe

Hello Cody,

I think this is what you are looking for. This is a nicely optioned Corsa I just purchased. Unfortunately there are title issues that will probably require me to get a bonded title and wait.

Wow? Which time capsule has that been stored in? Still has the pin stripe.

Hi Cody,
In case Dale's photo didn't tell you all you wanted to know, I thought I'd put my 2 cents in. The diagrams I included aren't the same, showing different reinforcements. First image came from the '66 accessory installation manual and shows a reinforcement in the bumper. Don't remember where I sourced the second, it shows a reinforcement behind the license plate area and a bracket that alters position of the license plate. I don't have any of the reinforcements, Jeff at Corvair Ranch, said he planned to plasma cut some replacements, but I never checked back on his progress. With your skill, don't imagine fabbing those up will be a problem for you.

Hi Cody,
Here are pics of the hitch off the car. I imagine it will be a real shin/knee knocker installed on the car. Thank Andria for forwarding your message about the parts from your '67.

Scott,

Thanks! The installation instructions are perfect and answer all my questions!! I had no clue the setup was so complex!

In the Mega For Sale Thread for 11/19/21 there is a white late model being parted out in AZ that looks to have one of these hitches on it.

Apparently the '66 version of the dealer accessory hitch came with revised reinforcement plates. Here are some photos of the hitch on on my recently acquired '65 Corsa. There is no bumper reinforcement piece. There are two engine compartment jogged reinforcements that attach to the rear boxed in frame member.

I am still confused about the purpose of the toggle switch but it seems to be fitted into the trailer wiring.

My old 66 Corsa Coupe had the style that bolts on below the cove trim - like Cody's '67, and was used to pull a (large) pontoon boat around northern MN. It bolted through the body, and had a piece of 'angle iron' as a bracket, with lag bolts that ran down into the rear rail, basically above the motor mount.

I can attest that it does some significant damage if you pull too heavy a load. The rear body panel was pulled out, and the bolts ripping out of the rear frame left some good sized holes.

I could definitely see it causing damage with too large of trailer. The most I would ever tow with it (if at all) is my lightweight motorcycle trailer with 3 rokons on it

I followed up on that one, and unfortunately athe reinforcements and locense bracket are either gone or he didnt want to mess with it. I never realized there was so much involved in a "factory correct" installation!
