Differential coming together, changing to 3:27 gears instead of 3:89.

All buttoned up. Used on of Clarks specality 22 tooth gears on the speedo drive because I went from 3:89 to 3:27 and 21 tooth is not an option because of the difference in diameter of the speedo pinion shaft gear. Speedo should be relatively close, could always do a gear box adapter. The pinion shaft and splines were so nice I had to keep it!

On to the next step.....

Have finally had a chance to get some "outside" work done. Much easier to work on the underside of the roof and the bottom!

I sold a rotisserie I built after finishing the Spyder. I didn't what to store it and thought I'd never do another total rebuild.

This has worked out well, old wood from a deck I tore down and scrap ply. Just not as compact and need the wife to help rotate into position.

Had a chance to clean up the bottom of the car and paint. Still want to get the underside of the dash and underside of the roof taken care of before removing the tip over jig.

Also doing some massaging of a few dents that were filled with bondo. Pulling/shrinking them up so that I have minimal filler when done.

Thanks Guys.

I cleaned up the roof and under the dash area and painted.

I also got in the cowl area and all the way down to the inside vents.

Had to find a way to clean up inside the rear quarter, stripped paint had oozed inside the louvers and other dirt has accumulated over time.

Piece of angel iron, air die grinder and wire wheel, Then various hooks and brushed attached to the angel iron to get it relatively clean before paint tomorrow.

Ingenuity often comes in handy and many of the tools available in today's market place make things much easier than they might have been decades ago.

Like you, I am learning a lot about the inner workings of my Corvairs that I may have previously forgtten about.

Tom, looking great and following your progress! Soon to start my Lakewood(s) project…

I read in another post your preferred rust-preventative/sealer of choice is the Mastercoat system. Is that what you used on the underside of the wagon? And what topcoat - or will it be sprayed ‘iron-oxide’?

“My product of choice is Master Series permanent rust sealer, even on bare metal. www.nomorerust.com

Thanks,

Yes, the MasterSeries is What I applied first and then I used KBS Blacktop Chasse Paint. I prefer the satin black under the car, it's not original and I don't do concourse.

Finally found a hood relatively close to me in excellent shape. I had come out of California and the guy had it in inside storage for 30 years.

Stripped it fully, epoxy primed, sanding primer and painted.

The color is 69 Fathom Green.

Tom, what paint are you using? Single or two stage? Looks really nice.
