Does anyone know how much a late model short block weighs? Im looking at buying one and it needs to be shipped across the country.

I've never paid anywhere near $600 with freightquote.com even to Canada, North Carolina and Hawaii. I just figure 300#s to be on the safe side.

I have used Fastenal, if both parties have location near then.
The shipment time may be a little longer, but I feel the "package" is in more secure and careful hands.

Most will have to factor in whether pick-up and drop-off are at a company with a forklift or a dock with a pallet jack. End gate and residential are available with an up charge. It's best to use a standard pallet like 42 x 48, rather than getting out and moving the forks for something smaller a forklift operator will get clever with one fork with bad results sometimes. Another benefit with shipping to a company is there is always someone there. There's not a lot of margin for them to make special arrangements for time and phone calls. If it doesn't get delivered the first time the possibility for damage goes way up every time it's moved.
