Sudden idle issues after replacing fuel filter
Posted by: Mjposner ()

Put in a new fuel filter, no issues on last two drives, yesterday (very hot day) did a short run and car stalled out, had to feather throttle to keep idle up. Possible very small air leak? No fuel is leaking that I can see.

Vapor Lock? You mean the fuel filters in the carburetors, correct? Did you change one or both? If it's an in-line filter, are you 100% that you have it in the correct direction? They usually have an arrow pointing the direction of flow. Finally, if none of those, a defective filter. They are cheap, try another.

I checked, it is installed correctly, but IO felt gas residue when touching it.

I am going to get a new one and new clamps as well.

One question when you was driving did you make a hard turn then it stalled? There was a problem with the carbs would flood when turning very hard then you would have to keep the throttle open to keep it from dieing. There was a fix for that. The last org meeting a gye was talking bout all the carbs over the course of corvair History and he talked bout the flooding.check this youtube vid full of info.[www.youtube.com]

WIX 33032 all metal. Good for over the left rear wheel.

Well, with that style of filter, there are four to six places air can leak in. Did you locate it in the engine compartment or under the left rear wheel well. (I would use only an all metal filter under the wheel area.) The glass one shown must be tightened between the two metal ends to prevent air inlet. Then the hoses used at either end must be clamped twice, tight on the filter and tight on the metal. If in the engine compartment, can you see fuel flowing through at idle? Any bubbles?

Its in the engine compartment:

Stalled in line at McDonalds, had to goose to keep from stalling

No bubbles...fuel is flowing.

Ordered a new one with all metal ends and new clamps to start.

I think people are not noticing he has an electric fuel pump listed as a mod in his signature line. I doubt the filter shown is on the suction side of the pump.
