I assume your talking about the 2.54 first gear.
That would be the "Yenko Tran"
2.54 1.80 1.31 1-1 theres also a
2.54 1.80 1.44 1-1
Both use a custom made input gear, the 1.31 uses a 25 tooth 3rd gear with a matching 25 tooth 3rd on the Cluster. I dont remember the tooth count on the 1.44
Getting harder to find the pieces to build one

Big car Saginaw with 1 ring input shaft has ratios: 2.54, 1.88, 1.44, 1.00.
Is this where Yenko got the parts?

Yes , but Yenko used the little known 1.31 3rd and it has to be the 66-67 version to work in the Corvair trans case

WELCOME!!! Where do you live?

This transmission will have some of the parts you need.

We've bought many Saginaw close ratio parts from this store.

Phil that one is a 1.44 third gear ratio.
How many input shaft lines for a 1.31 third gear ??
So our guy unidentified / unsigned post knows what to look for, since the Yenko trans is a 1.31 ratio.
And what he asked for.
Just being helpful here.

Main drive Gear (input shaft) spline cuts determine 1st gear ratio only.

Just for info the only counter (cluster) gear that works looks like this.

Reverse (straight cut teeth) is centered on cluster only will fit Corvair.

Uncentered reverse picture only fits big car Saginaw transmission case.

Good luck finding a 25 tooth 1.37 3rd gear...chicken lips hens teeth rare.

The ratios are accomplished with a three gear set...input, 3rd, and cluster.

I heard that somebody somewhere made a big car cluster work in a Corvair box.

The difference is the Corvair reverse idler is tiny compared to the big car idler.

Tiny reverse idler only lasted six month because big cars were breaking them.

Saginaw was used in 6 cyl pickups, Novas, Chevelles, Camaros, and El Caminos.

There is a guy near me with a 1966 Chevelle 300 post 260 six Sag column shift.

FWIW, I do have the rare parts to assemble a Yenko 2.54 CR transmission.
With the 1.31 third gear.
Not cheap, but the best of parts.
And built by a experienced racer [ me ]

Tooth counts for the 3rd gear and counter(cluster) are:

For the 1.31 third; 25 tooth 3rd, 25-25-19-15-15 counter
For the 1.44 third; 23 tooth 3rd, 25-21-19-15-15 counter

Both use the 19 tooth input gear.

As has been stated, to use either of these gearsets in a '66 or later Corvair 4 speed, the input gear has to be modified ($$$) and the counter has to be structured like the '66 and later Corvair Saginaw.

I have 2 of the 1.31 gearsets and 1 , 1.44 gearset, all either NOS or in excellent condition. Would sell all of them at the right price.

Best regards,

Lowell

If you want an even closer ratio there the 2.10 1.50 1.25 developed by Bob and Liberty gears in the 80s. Makes you feel like a hero the with the sound of the motor when shifting ! Not practical on a street Corvair , probably be ok with a Crown with a 350

Mike,
The 2.1 set seems to work fine with a strong enough engine and a long course like Road Atlanta.
I built and loaned one to Charlie Clark at the Runoffs years ago.
No other changes to his car or conditions and he gained 2.5 seconds a lap.
Over the 1.31 Yenko Box.
I found the same thing the year before.
Staying in the power band during shifts really works.
Brakke found the same.
Once he had one from me.
I have also run it in short, tight courses with a 3.89 ratio diff and am pleased with the similar gains in performance.
YOMV, of course.
