Beautiful 65 GTO for sale on eBay. I really like the black top and wonder how this would work on a 65 LM coupe.

I agree. One color. Why mess with such a unique color. I get so many comments on it from people coming to the shop and it hasn't even been in public yet.

Says the guy with a two-tone Late Model. eye rolling smiley
.
David, I think, it would look STUNNING!
Maybe not quite as dramatic as the the Wide pillars of the GOT, but stunning none the less.
I have always loved two-tone.
I think it helps break up the monotony of a single color.
I two-toned my '61 Monza, which scrambled the brains of the purists, who insisted that Monzas didn't come in two-tone, only the lower models.
I didn't care.
Why should the lower models get all the good color combinations?
It is like the question of Mag Wheels, or any other mod.
It only matters to YOU!
If you like it, GO FOR IT! thumbs up cool smiley thumbs up

Had a 65 Turbo Corsa in the late 70’s in evening orchid, oh well.

Yes the Pontiac Iris Mist and Evening Orchid were the same.

Maybe a black vinyl roof might look O.K. on the Pontiac (pictures aren't great), but the Corvair coupe body shape doesn't lend itself to that look. The Pontiac had the "faux convertible" hardtop roof line.

BTW a black convertible top does look fine with Evening Orchid. What really sets off the Evening Orchid convertible is the White/Black interior!

A two tone 4 door Corvair can be handsome, but the coupe roof looks best painted the same color as the body - in my humble opinon.

If you wanted Evening Orchid with a black top, while that combo was not listed as a "stock" combo, you could have special-ordered it (COPO) because it uses available, stock colors.

My '67 4-dr had a COPO combination, mist blue over white, where the stock combination in '67 was the reverse.

Having said that... While I agree the GTO looks great, I can't quite imagine that combination looking good on a Corvair. I had an Evening Orchid Corsa convertible where the stock top color was black; essentially the same as the GTO. I didn't like the look and changed it to a white top.

The nice thing about color choices, for the most part there's no right or wrong it's simply a matter of personal choice.

I hate vinyl tops unless it is a real convertible.

Don't think the black roof looks good.

After seeing pictures of a coupe painted in Orchid I agree that it would look better on the 4 door. The pillars ar too thin in the back. I do like the gloss black roof on the GTO. It’s a unique color that I find myself revisiting.

Hmmm - I wonder how they did the rear quarter windows on those Sport Sedan roofs. Cutting tempered glass is tricky and I wonder if they had to move the rollers and guides. If so quite a project.

Don't know how THEY did it, but I once was at a Glass Shop that was making a windshield for a chop-top car.
When I asked them about cutting tempered glass, they told me that they don't cut it, they sand-blasted off the part they want to remove,

Speaking of the 65 GTO...
Was the fit of the panels that bad back then or that's just a horrible restoration?

From last fall's mid-Pennsylvania car show. Sorry, I can't credit the owners. With the blackwalls and "Cragars", my vote is for the black top.

Apologies for the crude attempt.
Brian, thanks for providing a canvas.
I am NOT a Photo-Shop Artist'e.
But you get an idea.
I think it works. cool smiley
But, unlike others, I like to see contrast on a car.
That is why I feel ALL Corvairs benefit from Painted coves (any color), and I like contrast colored rockers also.
Stripes help break up all of that monotonous Mono-tone too! thumbs up
