NEED A PART - EM/FC Thermostat door shrouds
Posted by: Paulsgt ()

Good day Folks,
I have gone through all my stuff and cannot find the Left and Right thermostat door shrouds for an FC (I assume they are the same for EM?). I'm sure there are plenty available. Let me know what you have. Best condition possible please.

Thanks very much!

Enjoy the Corvair!

Paul:

If you don't get a better offer.

My Offer:
Pay the shipping ($8.) and I will grins a grind off a couple thermostat heat deflectors of a set of shrouds I have in the scrap pile. Pm me your address and email address, if you want them,

The rh door shroud is different for an FC as it has an opening and a welded nut for the FC dipstick tube. The lh FC door shroud changed in 64 for the larger 12 plate oil cooler. The early early door shrouds were 1 piece with the lower shrouds. So what are you looking for Paul?

Thanks Tim! I am using a 12-plate oil cooler and an FC dipstick.

Enjoy the Corvair!

Can't help on the FC specific one. Even my Greenbrier doesn't have that shroud.

I believe the Wagons may have that same shroud, with the captured nut for the lower dip stick tube.
Paul, I know you have been looking for that for a while. Have you tried California Corvair's for West Coast more rust free?

EM 12 plate duct can be hard to come by as well. I usually go with the "folded fin is as good as a 12 plate if you keep it clean" theory.

Paul -

I MAY have a spare FC passenger side heater door / shroud. I'll dig through my tin pile.

Still looking. I guess I could modify an 8-plate shroud(?)

That won't at all look proper Paul. I am in agreement with Jim. Just run a FF cooler. Parts (coolers, covers, top shrouds, door shrouds, etc.) are much more plentiful and just as efficient as the 12 plate. As far as cleanliness of the coolers, I check mine at EVERY oil change and/or before a trip. It takes me 2 minutes.

I actually found the correct turkey roaster for the FC w/12 plate cooler! The correct thermostat door shroud must be out there somewhere? I'm a pretty patient man. winking smiley

I have nothing against going with the folded fin. I may do that if I get impatient.

I had to modify a LH shroud for my 12 plate in the FC. Welding some make do goodness together . . . . .

Thanks everyone who replied. It looks like I have found an option. I am going to have one made but...if anyone finds one that is willing to sell it, I am a buyer.

Enjoy the Corvair!
