Ignition Points-What Is The Blue Streak Part Number?
Posted by: UGLYTRUK ()

I'll start off by saying that I'm not interested to switch to electronic ignition. I have too many cars, and my experience with points is fine

But having not bought points in so many years, I've completely lost touch with part no's, + I'm out of town, so can't look in my glovebox at my spare sets

I'm thinking Blue Streak is the way to go. Ebay shows alot of numbers. Any preference for a condenser? Or have they all failed even sitting in a dusty box?

So what is this part no? Says Chevy truck, DR3575CX A V8? Are V8 different? It's been soooo long...

Has anybody got old stock points for sale?

I'm pretty sure I have a set or 3 in the cardboard packaging with the circular clear plastic display window... 1970 era...

The T at the end is the lower quality so if you can get DR-2240

DR3575CX. That is the GM "Uniset", for a V-8. Points and condenser in one.

Most of the DR438 caps are now black, not blue.

Back 20+ years ago, the DR438 cap was black, the DR438X cap was blue (because it was the Blue Streak line), just like our oil pressure sender PS-15 was black, and the PS-15X was blue. I see I am out of date as usual!thumbs up

The T suffix is maybe 10 years old? And means cheaper (price or build, I'm not sure grinning smiley).

The "T" is still the lower quality/price part.

That is good to hear, as of last year I was still getting blue.

What about condensers? I read that most new ones are as bad as new China points. Are old stock condensers still viable? Can they be tested? Or visually inspected?

Do you have a stock radio? If not you should not need one.

I think he is asking about the points condenser, not the noise suppression one.

I have been using the new AC delco condenser with no problem.
