Zonker Differential Swap and Heater Install
Posted by: Phil Dally ()

This is a should have been done a long time ago job.

To get it done quick I'm even tying up my lift for it.

Differential to P/G seal is in backwards...we think.

The differential is full of ATF so vairy likely that.

Zonker has no heater and it gets real cold here.

Doing all rubber and oil leaks while it's apart.

Que East Coast members saying I'm a wussy.

Thinking I have everything...one last look.

Report back once the powerpack is out.

One more step in the process...needed this tool for a while.

I bought the beefy one...two stage rated at 1650 pounds.

With motohead's cradle I say do an entire power pack.

Yes that sounds like a two man job...safety first.

Pulling the transaxle should be piece of cake!!

When I had the shop, we used trans jacks similar to the one in your pic. The key is to mount the cradle in the right spot so that the assembly is balanced. Keep the ground clear of small parts and rocks. Easiest way to get the power pack in and out of the car.

We used to use a metal utility cart with a gig we to support the transaxle, mounted to a milk crate, with a deep pan underneath. Such that we could separate the transaxle from the motor and then subsequently separate the trans from the diff and have place for the diff lube to drain into with going all over the floor.

With the lift and the transjack/cradle could have the power pack out in 30 mins.
