Why move the alternator?

The previous owner/ builder did this. I don't know why except that maybe they wanted the cockpit to be flush with the edge of the engine and out of the way> It is what it is for now. I'll see how it works once I am finished. Thanks for the comment.

Weight balance! Alternator is on the centerline of the "Car" now.

How are the alternator and the fan powered? I see the fan belt running from the fan to the alternator but I do not see how they are powered.

Fan is powered normally. Notice 2nd pulley on f That belt powers the alt. See his other pics, the belts are on.

That sounds good in theory.
But the car is now even less balanced.
Before relocation, it would have slightly helped counter-balance that heavy starter hanging on the left side.
I have to agree with the OP, it was most likely done to allow the engine to sit slightly more forward.
It was probably easier to move the alternator, than it was to further modify the frame, suspension arms other assorted parts.

WA. state, 1 mile south of the Canadian border, I am not at the end of the world, but you can see it from here.

I built it all myself from a box of mandrel bent 1 1/2" tubing that I bought. It took alot of measuring and cutting and then TIG welding to get them all to look ok.

This was all built for the previous owner. The car was a parade car for an Indy 500 Shriner's Club. It won't be raced or driven much I just want it to be a Show car.

Am I mistaken, or will that alternator turn a bit faster than stock? Considering the drive ratios on the pulleys.

If that pulley is larger than a stock crank pulley yes it will.

Looks to me that the extra pulley would restrict cooling air flow for the engine
