Cylinder Head Temperature question
Posted by: michaelsassaman ()

I'm working on this open wheel Corvair powered project and I currently have no Temperature Gauge or Idiot Light and I'd like something because I am building a covering over part of the engine and this could effect cooling. This project car will not be driven except on and off the trailer to a show.
I find under the head, below the #1 Cylinder there is a sending unit with a spade terminal but no wire. If I were to just go with an Idiot light on the dash how would I wire this up? If I wanted a gauge where would you suggest I get one and the sending unit?

The switch at #1 provides a ground when it gets too hot. So power up a light bulb from your ignition and then hook up the ground side of the bulb to the spade terminal of the switch. I would install a grommet around the dipstick tube also.

If you are just driving on and off the trailer you don't need a fan or switch.

Thanks, I was hoping that would be the case. I'll know once the snow here in PA melts. Hopefully by July.

WoW! eye popping smiley

That thing looks like SO MUCH FUN, there is NO WAY I could resist taking it out, and ripping it around. cool smiley
BUT, If doing that, then you definitely would need to install the overheat indicator, and change that huge Alternator Pulley, that is blocking the cool-air intake. winking smiley

Fan Belt is missing.

Has the normal fan drive, with 2 idler pulleys (1 replacing the alternator).

Yes, as others said, the regular fanbelt is currently off the car.
Maybe taking a look at an earlier picture of the car will help to clear it up?
