Corvair FC back-up switch
Posted by: daisuke ()

Hello. I want to install a backup switch on the Corvair FC. There is no hole in the transmission.
Does anyone have a Clarks fix kit attached to a Corvair FC?

FC's never had a B/U light system!

From our FAQ's [corvaircenter.com] You can make your own or buy a kit from Clarks

Factory drawing; Works for 4 speed as well!

FC's never came with Reverse Lights, hence the correct FC manual trans' have a welsh plug in the reverse light switch hole. Not sure you can get the three speed reverse light switch to work on an fc, only because if I recall correctly, the three speed switch attaches to the underside of the car in the belly pan area and the shift tube sits right up under the floor pan. the FC shift tube either goes under or through the gas tank and sits farther away from the floor pan.

The better option (if memory serves me correctly AKA. Please verify!) to remove the welsh plug and install the 61-65 switch and wiring. Be aware that the reverse light switch, switches 12v positive, not ground. However, that does not mean power cant be routed to the rev lights and make the switch the ground source when you do install.

Of course you would need to figure out a way to isolate any back up lamp housing from chassis ground!

I wouldn't add that awful 4 speed backup switch to anything. That is one of the worst designs ever. It hangs down like it was intended to be broken.

Thank you. I would like to purchase and install Clark's parts.
If you don't understand, let me ask you a question again.

I haven't used the Clark's kit but it has to be far superior to that 4 speed switch. I know the factory 3-speed switch is tricky to get adjusted correctly.

The factory 4 speed reverse light switch would certainly be safer on an FC than on a car.

Is the hole threaded on the fc transmission?

It is just a welsh plug, as Matt said, if the plug is removed the spot for the reverse switch is inside.

You can see on mine that I actually plugged mine and used the 3 speed style switch because I did not want the switch hanging down, but mine is a car.
