Thanks for the additional info Frank. I got lucky then when my first car was a '66 Corsa that happened to have been optioned with what I thought was a very nice wheel design.
At first I was kind of bummed that it was not a 3-spoke like I had been used to on other cars, but the visibility of the wonderfully designed gauge cluster and the good positioning for hands made me change my mind fairly quickly.

The 3 spoke steering wheel did not become standard equipment until 67. All the Corvair steering wheels up thru 66 were 2 spoke.
