() Date: February 03, 2021 09:50AM Was looking to replace my horn button because of some stress / heat cracks on the face of it (Photo Attached). Realizing replacing it might be easier said than done. I'm not finding any assemblies that I can just snap on so some questions on my options; 1. Does anyone have a Corsa Horn Button in good shape they'd be willing to sell? 2. Is there anything I can apply similar to the glass repair products that would simply fill in these stress cracks without discoloring the whole thing? 3. I see Clark's has replacement inserts, does that include the clear plastic that is the main issue with my button? 4. If I do go the insert replacement route, what does one do with the retaining clips that appear to be part of the chrome ring? Past experience with stuff like this is as soon as you try to spread them they break off. Unfortunately when someone drilled the retaining clip holes out for bigger screws they went all the way through the ring, so if possible I'd like to replace the whole thing. Given the results of my searching so far it may end up staying as is. Thanks in advance, Gary Gary 1966 Corsa Convertible Northern New Jersey ![]() Edited 1 time(s). () Date: February 03, 2021 11:52AM Same on both years. If you have good chrome ring, Get the Clarks Corsa insert C8423 and Screws C8425. Gently grind away metal holding clips on ring. Then drill new holes for screws. Repair Horn Button Retainers: Allows you to repair loose 1960-69 horn buttons held on by the bent metal retainers that are held on by rivets. You need a #35 drill bit and a drill bit in the range of 13-64"–17/64". Al Georgia Re: 66 Corsa Horn Button / Cover Posted by:

If you look around 8:30 on the posted picture you can see where one of the clip retaining screw holes was drilled all the way through. Thanks for clarifying the Clark's clips and need for drilling, makes sense now. Gary Gary 1966 Corsa Convertible Northern New Jersey ![]() Re: 66 Corsa Horn Button / Cover Posted by:

() Date: February 03, 2021 12:32PM Locate a Monza button that has a good ring and swap a new Corsa button into it. There are none at our Vair vendors, nor eBay. All eBay buttons are worse than yours. You will probably have to post a WTB post on this forum to find one. Al Georgia Re: 66 Corsa Horn Button / Cover Posted by:

() Date: February 03, 2021 04:24PM Fun fact: When I sold parts at a Chevy dealer in the '70s, the 65 & 66 Monza cap was NLA and it superceded to the 65-66 Corsa cap at the same price. Free upgrade! () Date: February 05, 2021 03:15PM I always "assumed" that the wood look steering wheel was stock on Corsa models but apparently that was not the case. At least based on pics I've seen in the last few years here. The one for this discussion looks to be the standard black steering wheel, correct? Does not look like the one I remember my '66 with "wood" wheel. Does anyone happen to have pics of all the '66 type buttons (with or without the wheels) next to each other by any chance? Would love to see them side by side. Thanks Paul Re: 66 Corsa Horn Button / Cover Posted by:

() Date: February 06, 2021 11:13AM It seems that I read somewhere that you could put something like WD-40 on the fine cracks and it would wick into them and they would go away for awhile? RJ tools Salem,Oregon ![]() Re: 66 Corsa Horn Button / Cover Posted by:

() Date: February 06, 2021 11:48AM Gary - If/When you replace the center plastic piece, I could use it (cracks and all) for a particular project I am exploring. A Monza one would do fine.(Anybody?) I do not want to tear one apart that is usable, but if the Chrome is bad, or the face discolored, I can use some parts. () Date: February 06, 2021 11:52AM That is a "fun fact" Craig. Seems in the old days I saw many 65-66 Monzas that had Corsa horn buttons. I always thought people liked the looks of the C over the Monza emblems. Now I wonder is that was all that was available so they got Corsa horn buttons? Re: 66 Corsa Horn Button / Cover Posted by:

Of all the Corsas I have worked on or seen over the years, a wood wheel was maybe on 10% of them. Not a common option in these parts. It is more common than a three speed transmission, though. ![]() Frank DuVal Fredericksburg, VA Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum. |
