() Date: January 13, 2021 06:22AM I Have a 62 Rampside with a bad passenger side front door latch. I was able to buy a replacement from Jeff at the Corvair Ranch. However when I went to remove the latch, I saw it was hindered by the glass channel and wouldn't come out. I thought that maybe I need to remove the inside door handle mechanism to allow the bar and latch to drop down to clear the glass channel. I did a search on this forum for clues but didn't find any. I'm sure some of you have done this before. Rather than take the whole door apart, I thought I'd see what you guys suggest or recommend. 64 Greenbrier 64 Spyder (needs restoration) 65 Corsa 140, restored 66 Corsa turbo, restoring now 66 Corsa 140 "RR" code coupe fully restored 67 Pontiac GTO restored 69 Corvette 427 convertible restored 2015 Porsche Panamera S 2015 Corvette Z06 1965 AC Cobra (Factory Five) Re: FC DOOR LATCH Posted by:

() Date: January 13, 2021 08:13AM I remove the door glass and the rear channel it rides up and down on. Removing the inside door handle mechanism is only 3 fasteners and it makes attaching the end of the actuating rod to and from the latch much easier. Corventure Dave Re: FC DOOR LATCH Posted by:

() Date: January 13, 2021 01:31PM Thanks. Got it done. Getting the glass was a bit tricky. However, now one more thing I know how to do. I think I have an issue with the striker and will likely need to replace it. 64 Greenbrier 64 Spyder (needs restoration) 65 Corsa 140, restored 66 Corsa turbo, restoring now 66 Corsa 140 "RR" code coupe fully restored 67 Pontiac GTO restored 69 Corvette 427 convertible restored 2015 Porsche Panamera S 2015 Corvette Z06 1965 AC Cobra (Factory Five) Re: FC DOOR LATCH Posted by:

() Date: January 14, 2021 12:16PM The star tumbler on the door latch should have spring tension. When the door is adjusted properly… pushing the door handle button, the door should pop out. If the latch tensioning spring is broke, the star tumbler will get out of time and the door will be hard to close and latch. The door jam strikers are available new. () Date: January 14, 2021 04:49PM I was at the Mecum auction today. That gave me the opportunity to check other early 60’s Chevies and their latches. I think my striker is too high vs the latch causing the tumbler to jam after the first rotation. I will adjust accordingly to see if it fixes the problem. Thanks Dave.
