() Date: January 05, 2021 05:42AM I know articles have been addressed about the SU carb for turbo application. I have an HD8 that I plan to use, and also a 65 YH as an option. Can anyone point me to the article? Also looking to buy a SU adapter, or one to borrow, so I can machine one. Re: SU carb Posted by:

() Date: January 05, 2021 08:18AM The most detailed article was in COMMUNIQUE Dec 1980 by Bob Matthew, Peter Jacob also wrote a couple or three smaller articles that were in COMMUNIQUE through the years. Looking in 'tech topic index' OR maybe in CORSA tech guide should turn them up too. best wishes, Steve Rear Engine Spec. Inc. () Date: January 06, 2021 06:58AM all tho I have very little SU experiance I will take a jab at this , I have an hd8 also it came with the needed adapter in the same parts purchess I also got a 1.75 SU I made the adapter for that carb, Not realy that hard. I put the 1.75 carb on my car and test drove it , it was easy to start and after adjusting Idle mix it was ready for test drive it did everthing well including boost . My main concern is will it go lean when you really shoudnt ( high boost 15psi ) it has a very small fuel bowl so you will have to be at the max fuel psi the carb will tollerate .then I had the hd8 repaired and installed it, it was very finicky and hard to get stable idle , I DO NOT BLAME THE HD8 I believe there is still a problem with the 1 I have and since I have run a QJET for 20 years I went back to what works for me. I also know a fellow in new york that runs a 2 in SU in his road race car for years Roger R Madison Wi 62 ct pg turbo 65intercooled 180 4sp,autocrosser 62 Rampy Re: SU carb Posted by:

() Date: January 06, 2021 06:37PM The SU is a fine carburetor for street and asphalt racing. Make sure to install a very good air filtration system. If any dirt or silt gets in the venturi it will hang up. Making a lean condition...burning exhaust valves. Ran an H8 and double E-flow Rajay in landspeed. () Date: January 06, 2021 06:45PM Built my adapters starting with the three bolt pattern. Then the 3" E-flow finishing up with the 500 Holley. SU got silt from the dirt track one too many times. My humble recommendation is put a Holley on it!! Attachments: ![]() ![]() Re: SU carb Posted by:

() Date: January 16, 2021 11:09PM Thanks again Will! Found my copy of the Dec 1980 Communique, ordered two SU manuals, and already checked it for installation clearance on the 62 Vert. Hope to have the car running in a couple of weeks (mechanicals are all done, wiring of all the add-ons and instruments in progress). It's a nice 64 Spyder motor with a F-flow/B-flow turbo, Dale vacuum advance/pressure retard distributor, Snow Performance water/methanol injection, and wide-band A/F oxy sensor. Starting off with a 180 HP YH, then when the car is dialed in I'll be playing with the carb changes. Have 45 DCOE to try out, a Holly 390 prepped for the turbo, and now the SU to play with. This is actually a "mule" motor that belongs to my Spyder coupe, with the "real" engine sitting in multiple boxes of new parts waiting for final cam selection. My wife shakes her head a lot these days...
