I wish you good luck finding the 62 rear grill. If you find more than one, let me know.

Not sure if this helps because the ad is so vague.

The GM part number looks like 3831772...I think??

Close! 3834772. That’s a good price, NOS cheaper than Clark’s repro. And a screw in replacement for the the 61-63 cars.

KOOP, any luck on getting a grill?

To me, the 1964 Grill only looks good on a 1964. Better than nothing but just not right. The 1962-1963 grill is the best looking grill of all and I can't believe someone does not repop it.

I completely agree that the 1962-63 grill is better looking than the 1964 version and that it looks out of place on other year early model cars.
As much as I would like to see a reproduction of it, I do understand why it has not been reproduced.

Not enough Corvair people would step up and pay the price for it, especially if there was a less expensive alternative available.

We have seen this happen with items that have been reproduced then discontinued because of inadequate sales.

A couple good examples would be the late model door jamb sections for the hinge areas and lower thermostat shrouds that were once reproduced and now unavailable due to poor sales, maybe late model lower door hinges will be next?
It appears that the insulation panels for inside the engine area are going to be discontinued when the current inventory is eventually sold out.

IF we want the continued availability of reproduction parts to expand or even continue, we actually need to support the vendors by purchasing these items. JMO

No luck yet on the 62 grille. I actually already contacted the Craigslist ad posted here with the 64 grille, asked him if he would do a PayPal transaction so I'd have some recourse in case deal didn't work out, but he wanted me to send a money order. I passed.

I have an NOS or very nice '64 if you are interested in a '64 - I thought you only wanted a '62-63 (which I am also trying to find a good one I can afford).

PM me if you are interested - I think I have more than one and no '64 cars.

Guys,

What is a reasonable price for a 63 rear air grill?

I see a few here and there for sale, but the price seems way to high.

Troy, those are nice (really nice!) but the ‘62-63 grill has horizontal slats. Here it is for the car.

Good question!

They are really tough to find, especially in decent shape (I’m also looking for one for my ‘63).

With over 500K ‘62 and ‘63 Corvair cars built, one would think there would be more of these as spare parts around. I think two things happened - one, they are low, soft metal, and easily bent up, and two, I understand Chevrolet had dealers replace them with the 1964 style if one of these were damaged. ‘64 was a much sturdier design.

It’s a shame that not only can you still find ‘64 grills NOS, but Clark’s also reproduces them.

Wonder how many of us it would take with interest for Clark’s to consider a repro run of these...

IF you can find an NOS 1962-1963 rear grill for under $400.00 and are willing to spend the money, do not hesitate or someone else will get to it first.

Even though I don't have a 1962 or 1963 Corvair passenger car at the moment, I have been looking for the right 1963 to come along.
Over the past several years, I have been gathering parts when I see them available anticipating a potential need for them.
I saw an NOS grill a year or two ago on e-bay and offered $500.00 for it. The seller declined my offer and the grill did not sell at that time.

Beers, THAT is one beautiful rear grill!

Yes, I bet a lot of them were replaced back in the day. It's sooo easy to bomp into something backing up. (Ask me how I know - Ugh!)

Enjoy the Corvair!

I have spoken to Cal about reproducing these grilles, and he said that there is a limited amount of reproductions that can be done in any one year. I believe that the more of the reproduction parts that people buy, then the more reproductions that will be in the pipeline. This translasates, that when a new reproduction item is introduced, he needs to see a strong response in the form of purchases. If people wait to make the purchase until the day that they are ready to install the item, it may or may not be available. A reproduction cost vs. selling price equals the profit on that part. An example.. if a reproduction costs $50,000 to do, and it takes 10 years to sell out, then that reproduction isn't going to be available again for a very long time, and possibly never. If a reproduction sells out quickly, then there is enough demand to do a second run.
