There's two bellhousing gaskets available from Clarks. If you're installing the EM bellhousing on the LM crankshaft you should maybe use the thinner gasket. Like I said earlier I removed a '63 bellhousing from a '64 engine and thought the seal was way out at the end of the seal surface.

Jim, you're right . I dry fit the EM bellhousing without the gasket and the seal barely catches the end of the crankshaft seal surface. The flex plate also rubs the seal. Now I'm looking for a LM bellhousing.

They make spacers that go between the seal and the bellhousing which moves the seal inward. I believe that Clark's sells them.

I think I've read where a cylinder "base gasket" works as well?

I've never tried spacing a seal but I've also heard a piston ring of the right size might work.
I never seem to have enough LM Manual bellhousings for some reason.
I like your idea of just finding the right bellhousing. Lane66 offered a few here recently.
