Fuel shutoff solenoid vs electric fuel pump

In the vw bus, the gas tank sits right above the engine. Any fuel leaks could potentially be perpetually pouring gas on a hot engine, feeding a fire....

I was planning on installing an electric fuel shutoff solenoid in my bus, and I got to thinking that using an electric fuel pump would achieve the same result with the added benefit of having an electric Fuel pump.

If wired correctly, (I have saved the links from Al about wiring a pump with a safety cutoff feature), wouldnt I be achieving the same outcome as a shutoff valve?

Do most small fuel pumps, when unpowered, block fuel from flowing further down the line? I’ve got one of those 2.5-5 psi pumps.

Will an electric fuel pump in series with the Corvair mechanical pump cause the mechanical pump to leak?

Many use an electric feeding the mechanical without a problem.

For gravity flow with pump off... you need to test your setup. If needed use this

Yup. Need to test yourself unless someone knows for sure already to tell you about a specific brand they have tested. Some e-pumps will not flow fuel when they are off but some do.

Many motorcycles and scooters use a vacuum controlled fuel shut of valve. As soon as it sees intake manifold vacuum it allows fuel to flow, then shuts of if the engines is stopped or stalls.
