Well, the issue (generator / alternator) probably comes down to the bean counters.

Chevy II used the same engines as Biscaynes, Bel Airs, Impalas. When "they" changed to alternators; no issue.

The 65 Corvairs were probably in design mode in 63 / 64. The bean counters probably decided that there was no reason to change the mount in 63 /64 Corvairs.

The L'Universelle wasn't produced because GM discovered it would cost as much to produce as a Cadillac. The market for Cadillac-priced delivery vans would have probably been pretty small.

the 1965 trucks still used the generator

Curious, what GM 1965 truck used a generator?

Nope, 65 FC's got an alternator. That's why their oil filter adapters without oil fill spout are so rare. IF THAT'S WHAT YOU MEANT? grinning smiley

It may have just pain marketing for the the 65 intro. The 150 turbo went to 180, the 140 release in 65, the new suspension, the new body. Back in the day I remember seeing the new engine and that big aluminum alternator made it look more up to date rather than using up old 57 Chevy parts. To this day, the alternator makes the engine compartment look newer to me (my opinion).

I got another one...

Why did Ford, Dodge and Chevrolet bother to make Van bodied pickup trucks? They already had standard pickup's. The El Camino and later Ranchero's were different and classier than standard trucks, So I understand them.
But the Van bodied trucks had a vary short unpopular production run!

Dave,

Are you meaning these?

If so, answer is that they were built from the basic body of the Suburban which was in Chevrolet's lineup since the 1930s

Easy to build this version for commercial use. Just like the Corvan/Greenbrier relationship

I always called those panel trucks as opposed to a Van. I considered Van more of a forward control style were the engine was between the driver and passenger seat and you above the front wheels. I had a 65 Chevy, a 77 Dodge, 87 Chevy and 2001 Chevy. All were used for recreation and not work. The first two I converted my self, the last two were factory conversions. I now have a motor home which a glorified bread or tool truck chassis

That's a panel truck. Yet they were also available at the same time. Not to be confused with a van bodied pickup.
Think Corvan and Rampside.

About the only other competition was the VW truck. Not much of a motivator domestically for marketing!

The windowed "suburban" with rare 4wd Was much nicer and bigger the the Willys Jeep version. great for Baja in the 60's.
