Sombreros ? ? ?
We always called those Top-Hats.
Must be a regional thing.
My short style ones ('67s) are more of a "Boater".

These are 15X7 Western Bullet wheels with a 4" Backspacing.
4-1/2" Backspacing would be ideal but with a 40 year old wheel, you don't get much choice.
I paid $350.00 for the set on my car then spent $400.00 to get them polished a couple years ago and found some NOS center caps that are not yet in use.
The caps currently on my car are decent used ones. I am saving the NOS ones I have for later.

One problem with these wheels is the original center caps in good condition are difficult to find and can cost as much as a nice wheel.
There are alternative center caps available that will work but they are not as good as OE caps.

IF you like this style. they are available if you look for them in both 14" and 15" sizes with different width's.

Currently there is a set of four, 14" X 5-1/2" polished ones on flea bay with aftermarket center caps. [TQAAOSwFDpfdOhi" rel="nofollow">www.ebay.com]
These are $600.00 plus shipping.

IF I didn't already have three sets of these wheels, I would consider this set. (Second photo)

Here are the wheels that have been on my late 66's.

They are OLDSMOBILE 442 RALLY WHEELS. They are 14X7's, hard to find. I think they also come in 6 inch that was on the reg Olds. I love the look of these wheels.I have had so many compliments even from Corvair owners about them and the way I painted them.

In fact I was looking to buy a CORSA with the Chevy Rally wheels...they look like truck wheels to me...LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN BEAT WITH A UGLE STICK...LOL.

In fact, I went 100 miles away and bought another set of these 7 inch 442 wheels to go on this Corsa...if I get this car if I can sell my YELLOW 64 CONV, I will jerk off these ugly chevy rally wheels and put on the Olds I bought.

Please Click on my photos to see them much much better...thanks.

I went with 14" Impala SS wheels. I think 15s are too big for the body lines...

"Show me your wheels" HAS GOT TO BE a candidate for a sticky, if I ever saw one.

On the other board I frequent (the samba), its one in just about every section.

Maybe not a "Sticky", but definitely an "F.A.Q." ! thumbs up

Wheel and tire questions come up a LOT!
They almost need their own entire web page.

Photo 1 the car has 15X7 wheels with 205/65R15 blackwall tires.
The 4" Backspacing wasn't enough for these tires to clear the top edges of the inner wheel opening when the suspension compressed.
These were the wheels I posted back on October 03, 2020 08:31AM in this thread.

Photo 2 the car has 14X5-1/2" wheels with 185/70R14 whitewall tires.
These have a 3" Backspacing and there are no clearance issues.
These replaced the 15 inch wheels in April 2021. The 15's are slated to go on my Greenbrier once it is on the road.

I would have gone with the 195/70R14 tires but they were unavailable at the time I purchased them.
As a result of the smaller OD of these tires, my speedometer reads about 5 MPH fast in the 40 MPH area.
The up side is I think I'm going faster than I am and it may avoid getting pulled over for speeding.eye rolling smiley

You can kind of see them. 15" Chevy Rallye wheels with low profile caps.

I went with a set of Vision Rally 55 17 x 7s in Gunmetal with a machined lip, Police style center caps with Bowties from Classic Industries, wrapped in Toyo Extensa HP IIs in 205/45R17.

A little firmer ride of course with less sidewall, but due to the 0 offset, no rubbing in any direction.

that is almost exactly what I am planning. I am thinking of the knock off centers and maybe brining the stance down an inch or so

Have to go along with Florida Dave, American Mel, and rnch in that I feel that anything larger than 15inches starts to override and clash with the styling . The larger they are, the more the wheels dominate and overpower the styling. Which is why today's cars have huge wheels, to cover over their terrible styling or just plain lack of styling.

I have always liked the wire covers (and NO, I am not pretending I have real wire wheels) for their fancy looks. I also like the Chevy Camero Berlinetta wheels. Ran them on several Corvairs.

But I make one exception. The Crager classic SS mag, but even more so their rarely seen version they called the GT, which had a satin rim with dark gray or black spokes.

Where are you getting wheels with sufficient backspace? From what I’ve read 6” wide should be 4.5” backspace while 7” wide should be 5”

I do see the occasional 4.5” backspace wheels but haven’t seen anything higher than that.

I’m fine picking from wheels that fit the car correctly.
