So....

I have ran cut and welded Fitch arms for years, daily driven and autocrossed…

So is it time to buy both 417's and pay an aircraft qualified welder to cut and weld to stock arms down to the correct length to make a pair to the 417...

I wonder how many damaged 418 arms were replaced with standard arms...the same way a 150 engine I bought years ago with one 102 head

I have an orphaned 417 arm as well. Put me down for a standard arm modified to a 418.

….and it is even more bizzare that I had 1 orphaned 318 arm in the parts buyout I bought a few months back.

I guess I should have kept it and scooped up one of these 317 instead of selling it....ah hindsight is always so clear...

I thought someone (Matt?) was making arms from flat steel that could be adjusted.

Michael Leveque can mod arms to the quick arms spec, several of us are using those.

Isn't that always the case? I've found that it is better to hold onto such "broken set" items, as you never know what might turn up just as you need it.

For example, I had a single OEM NOS vent window rubber seal (the major part) and one OEM NOS rear suspension cam bolt hanging around for some time. But as I was assembling my most recent restoration project, I came across a vendor at one of the conventions that had but one OEM NOS cam bolt that he didn't know what to do with, so sold it cheap. Then I also found a super-nice used vent assembly (other side). So I ended up with complete sets of both items just when I needed them.

You never know what might happen. I have to credit these two incidents (and many others like them) to The Man Upstairs looking out for me.

Glad you got it, I had that Orphan arm for over 20 years and in all that time Could never find a orphan 418, I have found however other Orphan 417 arms on different front ends, I think a guy at the factory was grabbing 417's by mistake and installing them on one side of the car! Seems lots of Orphan 417's out there with no matching 418's.

Maybe this a project for a company like Rare Parts?
They will make "One Off" parts as well as quantities as low as 1.
The down side of course it low volume results in higher prices.
Maybe they could reproduce the 418 arm for those who have the orphan 417'sconfused smiley
