Brucem
() Date: August 13, 2020 09:33PM I am hoping someone can direct me on sealing the lower metal drain tube to the head to make sure it does not leak. I am restoring a 65 Turbo and I am installing the drain tube to the passenger side head and it is not that snug. It fits well but is easily pulled up and pushed down or turned. I wondered if there is a sealant or process someone recommends for this part that will prevent future leakage. When I pulled it apart there was a lot of residual oil in this area. The tube is not bent or cracked in any way. Its just not that snug. Thanks all - Bruce Re: 65 Turbo Drain Tube Question Posted by:

() Date: August 13, 2020 09:43PM My drain has two screw clamps, one at each end, the head and the brass(steel?) tubing. Snug and no leaks. () Date: August 13, 2020 10:25PM Thanks Jim, I have the tube and new clamps. My question revolves around the lower metal tube that seats into the passenger side head. My tube there is somewhat loose. I am wondering how others have sealed that junction. This sits below your two clamps and rubber hose..... Thanks Bruce Re: 65 Turbo Drain Tube Question Posted by:

() Date: August 13, 2020 11:46PM That tube should be a Press Fit into the head. You can try to expand it as Matt says. () Date: August 14, 2020 08:34AM Thanks fellas - I will do both. I know its a press fit so I will try to seat it better with minor expansion and seal it with the JB. Re: 65 Turbo Drain Tube Question Posted by:

() Date: August 14, 2020 08:47AM If using the JB Weld, why bother trying to expand the tube? You might be looking for trouble that way. Just an opinion. Good luck! Re: 65 Turbo Drain Tube Question Posted by:

() Date: August 14, 2020 09:50AM Make sure you have the correct parts (is the cylinder head truly a 180 head? is the drain pipe truly an original Corvair turbo pipe?) We have seen homemade pipes and non turbo heads used for these cars. If yes or no, then apply some JB and hope for the best. The pipe just drains oil in volume, not pressure. () Date: August 14, 2020 12:23PM I use Permatex #2 to seal this tube. Never had a leak and is removable if ever needed. Expand the tube a little as previously stated then put a nice coat on the tube and press it in. Dennis Nashville area Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum. |
