Saw this car on American Pickers tonight.

Full custom built on a 1960 Corvair Sedan.

Found a post 11 years ago...pictures gone.

I saw that episode also and that was quite a transformation for the EM.

That collector had quite the love affair for bubble top custom cars.

While a lot of work has gone into that, it is definitely the least attractive Bubble-Top car I have ever seen.

Bubble top cars are cool! Especially when you roll down the windows!

Over the years, I had two bubble cars. This is one of them. I sold it in the mid 1980's for a whopping $300.00 and it had NOS front fenders on it.
I think I'd pay ten times that amount for it today.grinning smiley

You can see my first car parked beside it. My 1963 500 Coupe.

Wasn't the original TV batmobile built on a Corvair chassis?

The "Dream Truck" is far more famous. Half the custom car builders in CA had their hands on that car at one time or another starting in the early 50s. It went through several transformations and even rolled off a trailer at one time.

NO.
That poor car has been accused of being all kinds of things over the years.
BUT, the original George Barris Batmobile was built on the LINCOLN FUTURA Concept cat.

Look closer.
It IS the same car, but someone modified it.
Look at the main body-lines,same basic side profile, double bubble top, and the shape of the seats.
I would have to guess that someone tried to update it during the Eighties so it would still be relevant on the show car circuit.
They eliminated the Rear Black Bullet Bumpers(or are those HUGE tail-lights?), and removed the futuristic headlights in exchange for the then "Modern" Rectangular headlights.
The Original iteration was without a doubt, MUCH MORE attractive ! ! !

It was on display at the museum near Kalamazoo as I recall a few years ago. It had the Eelco aluminum headers on it.

My rampside was an ISCA show truck in the early 70'S and was modified several times over it's five year show run. I even made some minor changes to make it roadable as I thought it needed to be driven and I do. It is for sale as I have too many.
