Cranks over really good . No problem there .If i hold the switch all the way over while cranking it will not fire but if I release just a little pressure while it is cranking it will start and run fine . I tried a switch out of another car and same thing happens . Any ideas .

I wonder if the coil is not getting the 12 volts from the starter solenoid when cranking but is getting voltage from the ignition switch on position.
There's 2 wires going to the starter solenoid. The purple one energizes the starter and the yellow one provides the current to the ignition coil. It's easy enough to stick a test light probe in the connector at the left front of the engine compartment.

Just as a test, put a jumper from the battery + to the coil + and try to start. If it starts normally your not getting 12v to that yellow wire while cranking. Defective solenoid or broken yellow wire.
Or you could just wash your hands of the whole mess and sell it to me. grinning smiley
