() Date: May 17, 2023 11:57AM When I was 16, I blew the belt on my '66 140 far from town without a spare. The old time Corvair guy in Calgary, Sam Elliott (born 1919) handed me this next time I saw him. I'm 55 now, but it was good advice! Brent Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/17/2023 12:02PM by brentc. () Date: May 17, 2023 03:21PM That's a great list, Brent! ![]() Thanks for sharing. ![]() CAUTION ! ! ! While this IS a great topic to keep in mind when traveling, one should also keep an eye on the member who revived this old dead thread. This is only Myrastomean's second post, and it too is made on an obscure, and old dead thread. He did the same on his last post, reviving a thread about Video software. NOTHING he has posted has involved CORVAIRS! Be cautious, and DO NOT MAKE ANY PURCHASES FROM THIS MEMBER, until he proves he is an actual Corvair owner! -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- WA. state, 1 mile south of the Canadian border, I am not at the end of the world, but you can see it from here. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited 1 time(s). Consider bringing a few essentials, such as a first-aid kit, a flashlight, extra water and food, and some basic tools like a wrench and screwdriver. Packing a spare fan belt is also a good idea just in case. Anyway, have a great shakedown cruise in your bus, and happy travels! () Date: May 23, 2023 10:15AM My thinking is, if you need a "survival kit", you probably didnt do enough testing on shorter trips to find out what needs fixing or replacing. It is unreal to me how long I have been driving a Corvair without even packing a spare fan belt! ------------------------------------ Kevin Nash Friday Harbor Washington 63 Spyder, Daily driver, EFI read about my project here: [corvaircenter.com] first test start on EFI here:[www.youtube.com] first official EFI boost test here:[www.youtube.com] My new fan! () Date: May 23, 2023 12:03PM Back several years ago I made up this universal L or R LM bearing assy. with a spare drive shaft with new universal joints to be used on a long trip with a Corvair if you were not sure about condition of bearings. Never had to use it but it was there and could have been changed out with minimum tools.Still have it and for sale for $125.00 plus shipping.
