Call me crazy..Subframe rot

Okay, so over 10 years ago as a teenager at the time I put new front floors in my 66 coupe. My mother's now ex-husband, who I later found out is great at horrible repair jobs, helped "fix it". I'm now refixing things, or atleast trying to.

BAD NEWS....Due to improper seam sealer, removing old floors and such, the front subframe on both sides is basically/almost toast. Call me crazy, but I'd like to save the car and not scrap it or make it a part car. In the image you can see where it's rusted through.

Realistically, can this be done? Anyone know of a person who'd sell some or replacement ones? We have a welder, but not a planisher to make a nice looking piece. We planned on using square tubing and welding the front and rear subframes together, and angle iron in the rocker channels (under the fisher rocker panel cover), but how should I address this?

This forum has a ridiculously small file size limit, so I will put a link up for you all to view it. See flickr link below.

I would contact Davemotohead, and see what he has available.
He usually can get good used sheetmetal from the desert.
As for the posting size limit, it has worked perfectly fine for the rest of us for years.
Don't know why you would think it is such a problem?
Why would we want to eat up bandwidth on ridiculously oversized files?
The dumb problem that arises from using outside picture posting sites is when they go under, or decide to demand subscription fees for posting, we lose important pictures from the forum threads.
But, if you consider your pictures to be un-important, I guess it is not a problem.

OK, you're crazy. Now that that is out of the way, I see nothing wrong with repairing what is in the one picture on Flickr.

I would hammer a piece of 18 to 20 awg steel over a wood form to make that gusset. Then weld it to the new floor and existing metal. If you use galvanized steel, like from an HVAC supplier, remember it has zinc on it and the fumes will give you "Brass Flu". Lots of fresh air to weld that stuff.

Dave motohead sells rust free western sheet metal. I do not know if he sells the gussets (subframe) separate from the floor. Might be the whole subsection and you take it apart by drilling out the spot welds.

How are the rockers? That is the real work if they are rusty.
