O/T-Best Ever Miura Picture thumbs up

The first true Supercar is simply a work of art.

Not sure when or why this picture was taken.

Surely it must have been some kind of club.

A Roma. I saw Mile Davis' lime-green Muira parked outside his townhouse before he cracked it up on the West Side Highway. What a car!

In the 70's, I was a young lackey mechanic working for Claudio Zampolli (Cizeta Moroder fame). He had a Italian service garage on Sepulveda Blvd just south of the Chevy Van Nuys plant. He was the goto guy for servicing the Muira. I was in love with this car but the closest I ever got was holding the tools for his Swiss master mechanic Bruno. At the time, I had a 1967 H Production Fiat 850 spyder and sold the headlight glass covers to Claudio for a damaged Muira. Yes, Lambo used Fiat covers on the Muira headlights. At the time I was there, the mechanics were all crazy about the Countach but not me.....

That is so funny Bob about the headlight covers as Lambo Diablos used Nissan 300zx headlights!

I've only seen one (a rough beater, no less) in the flesh. Been a fan of this Bertone designed car since it was new in the '60's. Still looks modern today, a mark of a true classic design.

Years ago I restored YS-028. The Customer called me about 8 months later after taking car to a shop in Thousand Oaks to have carbs adjusted and they could not figure them out![Why He did not call Me after spending many $$$ I dont know!] I arrived and there was a black Miura partially covered in the corner. I asked about it and was told it was in some kind of Custody battle. I always wondered what happened to it. I was not allowed to take pictures. I adjusted the carbs and never worked on the car again! It was sold

I have two stories of how I fell forever in love with the Miura.

All through my first year in High School I walked to school past a Porsche shop on Burbank Blvd...jetcat and Marco both remember that place. There were two Muiras in the back that were the shop owner's. Everyday I stared at those Webers!!!

Then one Friday night at Grand Central Street street (of Big Willy fame) drags in Glendale one of those Muiras showed up. The Miura was racing a 55 Chevy when Glendale PD pulled in at the start and finish lines...BUSTED! The 55 Chevy just shut down but what the Miura did is still in my head like yesterday. He was about 100 feet away coming at me and I saw him grab a gear and turn the wheel 180 degrees left. At wide open full throttle that V12 reversed it's course away from me back between the two cop cars at the start line. I will never forget that sound as long as I live.

As I side note Arch Evan's got us into the Leno Collection tour about ten years ago. I was vairy up close and personal with both of Jay's miuras.

Below my second favorite Muira picture dressed in Andromeda Red.

THOSE CARBS..and a random internet shot of Leno's yellow Miura.

Where I grew up in L.A., we lived in a typical middle class neighborhood in a nice part of town. On my short street, a couple doors down there was a guy with two Porsche 904s and a few houses up there was a guy with a Miura. Those were the days when these kinds of cars were not that far out of reach.

When I was selling my '66 Sprint, one of the shoppers came in a 64 0r 65 289 AC Cobra, which he let me drive around a long winding block. Man that car was fast!

He was selling it for $5500, or was it $5000? I knew at that moment it was the closest I would ever get to buying an AC Cobra. His asking price was about four times my worldly worth as a college student with a bicycle and a $1200 dollar car.sad smiley

In the early 90's I found what today we would call a "driver" Miura.

It was $105,000 and I should have sold everything I owned to buy it.

Those were awesome times to see cars like that in your neighborhood. A Porsche 904! I have seen some beautiful cars over the years. When I worked at the Alfa Saab dealer in the 90’s we had a wholesaler who bought and sold exotics. Oren times a easy profit was to move cars from one sale to another where there was the appropriate buying audience. Sometimes those cars needed work and I was able to drive some. I have been watching Tyerrell’s workshop. He is doing a Miura restoration that people might enjoy watching. [www.youtube.com]
