Nice to see a replacement. But I have a question. Your design looks like what others have done with the bi-metallic coils and the one problem is when they fail the door doesn't open, or doesn't open far enough. Is this the case with your product?

One good thing about the original bellows design - when it fail the door goes open to prevent overheating.

Nice Workmanship!

I have never seen a Bi-metallic Coil to fail. When I tested the choke T-stats...a BREAK allowed more than enogh movement to OPEN the doors.

The Bi- metalic thermostat spring is super dependable. If it delaminates which I have never seen one do it will loose tension and allow the door to open under gravity or air force. If it should actually break then the door will open under gravity or air force since the tops of the air doors are heavier than the bottom. It is virtually impossible for the spring to just stop working. The choke thermostat spring idea won't work properly since the choke spring is simply too weak. I have been testing these on 3 vehicles for over a year with excellent results.

How do you adjust the length of the rod to get the doors to open fully horizontal?

Two ways. The inherent design and calibration of the Spring and the original sheet metal screw on the side of the heater box hold it horizontal at fully open.Thank you for asking.

Reading his ebay ad...

If your original Thermostat Bracket is located in the center of the Lower Shroud you have a 1965-1969 Lower Shroud and you will need to order from the other EBAY Thermostat listing for 1965-1969 Corvairs.

The heat shields are no longer used. The new Thermostat has its own built in shield. There are two EBAY auctions as noted in the original post for early and late thermostats. The pictures are actually the late model parts. The earlies have longer rods. This was not some weekend project, it is a well engineered and tested system.

It's cheaper than buying a new pair of original type aftermarket thermostats that are reported to sometimes not last very long.

I initially had manufactured 50 units of each early and late design. The sales have been pretty equal of each. After an initial surge of buyers it has slowed to a trickle. This being the case unless sales increase I will not be ordering any more inventory of these items. I still have a few of each design left so If you have thoughts of getting some I wouldn't delay as it is doubtful if a reorder is in the future. I really thought there would be more demand. Thank you.

Have you talked to Clark's about selling them for you? It seems like a lot of people do that.

Probably have to wait until cold weather returns or when people have more confidence that they won't be unemployed soon.

I'd wager people are waiting to hear from those initial buyers as to how well these work before committing. This is typical of anything new: You'll have a wave of early adopters, followed by a lull, then an increase as people recognize a product is worth buying.

I would recommend getting some feedback and testimonials to help sell people on the merits of your items. Communicating the experiences of initial buyers is critical for enticing further people to purchase. Not to mention, you haven't been selling them very long. They're a very specific item competing with proven technology in a niche community; acceptance will take time.

I can tell you I haven't jumped on the bandwagon for several of the reasons mentioned including one of my own. I've replaced a ton of bi-metal choke thermostats because they failed and they don't deal with anywhere near the heat these will. In my experience they would tend to fail open since all the failures I've seen the coil relaxes. Your design doesn't appear to have any adjustment to compensate for the coil relaxing either. I'm in a wait and see mode which will probably put me out 5 years or so. I have about a dozen NOS thermostats to hold me over.
If the rods on yours had threaded ends like the factory ones it would be nice.
