Posted by: caroseiii ()

I am selling new shifter shafts for early four speeds made from titanium bar stock at $125 each. See link on ebay [www.ebay.com]

I have two 62-3 transmissions rebuilt with one of these and am building a third currently. Let me know if you need one.

Excellent!
You should make a titanium internally regulated alternator brace.

Would it work in the 64-65s or is it specific to 62-63 ?

You guys are a laugh riot! I wish I could afford that but machine work is up there with my legal hourly rate. I recently had a light accelerator pedal shaft made but these shafts are a real need. All the used shafts are junk and you need a hard material for this application. Engine cylinders made from Ti may not reject heat well enough.

That is sweet Crawford. All you need to do is make them for the 66 box..

We just need an engineered drawing of one to make the late shaft. I don’t have an example but it would not be much trouble to do that one, too.

I love lawyer jokes. They have a kernel of wisdom. Roll over for the prosecution but make sure to pay me first.

I've heard Titanium is toxic when welded...how about when machined?

Ti is not toxic when machined. A lot of welding vapors can be really bad, like zinc.

Toxic? That means dangerous. Dangerous means liability. Liability means...

I can just see the TV commercials. Clergy? Boy scouts? Talcom powder? Titanium?

And the lawyers win again!

Welding rod litigation was profitable for somebody. Court reporters?

Had a Porsche intake for a Weber 40 IDA 3C with a piece broke off. Took it to a shop to see if they could weld it back on. They would until I told them it was made of magnesium; they then declined.

Welding magnesium isn't toxic, just dangerous.

Titanium is almost always alloyed with a lot of other things but I've never heard of any being toxic.
Back in the early 90s when trade with Russia was working we used to buy motorcycle sprockets made out of titanium. They felt like aluminum and cost about the same as normal sprockets. That was great. I think Russia has most of the mines for titanium.
