If you got a stimulus check, did you spend it on Corvair stuff?

As the title says: If you got a stimulus check did you, or will you, spend in on your Corvair? No judgement - any money spent helps the economy.

I hadn't really thought about it before, but the $1,200 "stimulus check" did come exactly to the asking price (and what I paid) Rick Loving for his rebuilt, late model posi diff! Thanks, Donald!

No! Frankly if it would be an option I'd elect not to receive the money. I live in a relatively expensive area (Eastern Ventura County, CA) and my wife and I get by on a bit more than $30,000 a year. So, a married couple of less than $150,000 a year being seen as "needy" (especially in lower cost areas) baffles me.

I'd rather forgo the money if it would absolve me from the taxation (with interest) that will be an obligated to eventually pay the money back. Contrary to what Matthew Lesko use to tell us it is not "free money."

Being that it is not an option I'll put the money in the bank to offset the debt I will eventually be paying back. I'm not saying it is wrong to take the money if you understand the eventually consequences. But how many people are seeing it as a loan they will eventually pay back?

wittsend, I completely understand what you are saying about not wanting to "Kick the can further down the road."
As I was always taught my entire life, "there comes a time when you have to pay the fiddler".
I do NOT look forward to that time!
As for your opening remarks about "the needy", I also do NOT understand why the cut-off was set so high, and why the reductions step were not started at a lower point.
BUT, with all that being said, . . . . .
Since they ARE handing it out, I WILL take it!
Like was said, even if I don't accept it, I will be required to participate in paying it off, so I might as well Dance while the Fiddle is playing!
Most likely apply it to the Mortgage, but may slide a little bit over to Corvair parts.

I'm with you guys. I'll take it only because I will be required to pay for it regardless.
I also think the scale is totally wrong. It ought to be based on a percentage of how much you paid in with no upper or lower limits. If I paid $250k in income tax why would I get nothing and someone that paid nothing get the full amount. I would be required to pay back a huge amount of it where the other guy pays back nothing. It sounds a lot like bankruptcy laws to me. The guys that pay their bills have to support those that don't.

I haven't gotten any money from the government, however, if and when it finally does come, I will invest it in a dividend paying stock. I just got a notice this afternoon, that the "required minimum distribution" for our IRA's has been suspended. This is a big thing for me, since I can leave the money in the account to continue to grow for another year. My goal is to live long enough that there will be nothing left to leave to my heirs when I finally pass away.

There area a lot of disinformation online. I did some fact checking - The stimulus check IS NOT TAXABLE INCOME at this time (of course that could change).

The whole idea was to have folks spend it to pay bills, or if they are well off, then to buy something to STIMULATE the economy, hopefully in a way to help U.S. workers.

As for the income limits ---- It's an election year and the politicians wanted to make the most folks happy so they get re-elected - nothing new about this approach. I never thought I'd see Republican politicians act like a bunch of "Keynisians" (theory the government should spend to keep the economy booming).

I'll believe it when I see it. Wife and I file taxes every year but we don't make enough to get anything back. I never put any stock in what the government says. EddieB Dade City,Fla

I haven't received any money yet but if and when I do I'm buying a new low profile floor jack and a new pistol, looking at a 22 magnum revolver. I carry a 380 auto but not fond it. Oh, my Corvair doesn't need a thing.

Since I was the only one that mentioned "taxation"..., I wasn't implying that the Stimulus Check would be taxed (as income). What I was saying is eventually I will be required to pay the money back (indirectly) as I pay my taxes. Or, as someone mentioned the grand kids will be paying it. Either way someone is paying for it because there is no money tree to pluck the funds from.

Thanks for reminding me.
Now THAT is an item I do need.
My 4500lb. HF floor jack bent the lift-pad while I was trying to move my boat.
I couldn't see anything physically wrong with it so I tried to use it to jack up the Vert to change my starter.
I got it 3/4 the way up and it suddenly dropped the car!
The welds that hold the upper arm onto the pivot shaft completely failed!
Yes, a new floor jack with the stimmy check would be a good idea.
