This old dog learned a new trick.

I knew my wimpy 40W hobby laser could not etch polished or shiny aluminum but I found out it can distort the porous anodized surface on my fuel pump rings enough to leave a contrasting mark on them. End result is I can raster etch an image or text on the surface.

I knew I could do reverse lettering on them if I had color dyed them as part of the anodizing process (the laser obliterates the pigment leaving the original aluminum color) but these parts are not dyed since the natural color best blends in with the rest of the fuel pump parts.

End result is that I found a cool way to identify my parts for posterity. grinning smiley The marks won't visible at all once the ring is installed.

Another project update.

I have some units ready to go and I will be PM'ing the people who asked to be contacted when they became available. All the extension rings have 5 through holes and 5 threaded holes so you can assemble them in two different ways as you choose. The rings are made of 6061 aluminum and all are anodized in clear so they look as OEM as possible next to the other pump parts.

All sales will include free foam filter rings in case you want to do my fuel leak safety vent mod to your pump while you have it apart. See prior info in this thread. [corvaircenter.com]

I offer my fuel pump extension ring in three versions.

-The Basic Kit $37
This includes the bare minimum items required and you supply the easily found hardware bits from your garage, Ace hardware, etc.
-(1) Fuel Pump Extender Ring
-(1) Cap nut with rivet nut pre-installed
-(1) Stainless socket head cap screw 8-32 x 1.5” (3/32” hex socket)
-(1) Thin nut 8-32
-(1) Nylock nut 8-32
-(1) Three-bond 1401B thread locker single use pack

-The Full Kit $45
This includes the Basic Kit above plus all additional hardware listed below so you can build either version (screwed together or bolt-through)
-(5) Keps lock nut 10-32
-(5) Pan head screw 10-32 x 0.25”
-(5) Pan head screw 10-32 x 1.5”
-(5) Pan head screw 10-32 x 2.5”
-(1) 3/32’ Bondus ball-driver wrench

-Fully built and tested plug-n-play $150
New pump built with parts above. Fully tested on a running engine set to your specs. Includes the extra hardware to through-bolt the pump in the future if you wish. I only have a few new pumps to sell through since I figure most people will install the kit on their own pump.

You can also add the fuel pressure gauge kit parts for $25 each. I have a limited supply of the 1.5” gauges but anyone can source these parts from eBay or Amazon if they wish.
-(1) 0-15 PSI pressure gauge 1.5” dia with 1/8-27 NPT bottom-mount fitting
-(1) Brass "street" Tee Fitting 1/8-27 NPT
-(1) Brass pipe nipple 1/8-27 NPT 1.5” length

Shipping for any version is a flat $5 to any USA address served by USPS. Shipping fees outside the US will be figured on request.

I take Paypal or checks. Please PM to arrange purchase.

Thanks for the first wave of orders! The shipping department worked OT last night (Cathy and I at the kitchen table). smiling smiley

We mailed out 11 basic kits today along with 7 fuel pressure gauge kits and 2 oil filter bolt gauge sets. My inventory control system (Cathy) says I need to make a few more so additional aluminum blanks are on order. I think there are 4 rings not spoken for yet.

I wasn't going to offer any colors but when I did a blue one as a further test of my anodizing skills it sold immediately so I guess I'll offer blue, yellow and red in the future for an extra $5 if you wish. The laser etching sure stands out nicely when the parts are dyed but of course that is hidden when installed.

Thanks again to early purchasers. USPS has been slow due to the holiday rush but a couple of people reported deliveries in the last few days. I don't think that any are lost yet, just delayed. I shipped out three more this week and have 15 more rings to tap and anodize.

I have one basic or full kit ready to ship but it wouldn't deliver until after Christmas of course. This ring has a satin, polished aluminum appearance as I was testing my anodizing options again after a few people asked for colors. PM me if interested.

I also did a deeper blue for one buyer but finding it hard to get darker than this at least with the dye I have on hand. This one was in the dye a long time before sealing.

I've got another batch of extension rings ready to go. Purchasing choices below. Ask questions here or by PM.

-The Basic Kit $37
This includes the bare minimum items required and you supply the easily found hardware bits from your garage, Ace hardware, etc.
-(1) Fuel Pump Extender Ring
-(1) Cap nut with rivet nut pre-installed
-(1) Stainless socket head cap screw 8-32 x 1.5” (3/32” hex socket)
-(1) Thin nut 8-32
-(1) Nylock nut 8-32

-The Full Kit $45
This includes the Basic Kit above plus all additional hardware listed below so you can build either version (screwed together or bolt-through)
-(5) Keps lock nut 10-32
-(5) Pan head screw 10-32 x 0.25”
-(5) Pan head screw 10-32 x 1.5”
-(5) Pan head screw 10-32 x 2.5”
-(1) 3/32’ Bondus ball-driver wrench

-Fully built and tested plug-n-play fuel pump $150
New pump built with parts above. Fully tested on a running engine set to your specs. Includes the extra hardware to through-bolt the pump in the future if you wish. I only have a few new pumps to sell through since I figure most people will install the kit on their own pump.

-Fuel Pressure Gauge Fittings $10
You can also add the fuel pressure gauge fittings to your order. I am out of the 1.5" gauges but anyone can source those from eBay or Amazon for the same price I was getting. These are the two fittings you would need to add a 1.5" diameter gauge to the output of the pump

-(1) Brass "street" Tee Fitting 1/8-27 NPT
-(1) Brass pipe nipple 1/8-27 NPT 1.5” length

Shipping for any single order is a flat $5 (no matter the size of the order) to any USA address served by USPS. Shipping fees outside the US will be figured on request.

I take Paypal or checks. Please PM to arrange purchase.

I ordered just the fuel pressure gauge kit and got it installed today, after a minor snafu caused by me. I polished the brass before I installed it. Nice parts and good fit, I'm happy, thanks Dave.
