NOS 4 Speed Gear Discussion
Posted by: junkman ()

I have been thinking about how to price NOS 4 Speed parts. I was thinking that the fair way was to take the original part price as listed in 1963 as an example. If a gear cost $13.30 in 1963, using the inflation calculator, that same gear today would cost $112.28. What are your thoughts..

I tend to get 1/2 to 1/3 that much on ebay except counter gears assemblies. There aren't enough buyers building their own transmissions.

I built a close ratio trans with 2/3 of NOS parts and I couldn't sell it so I used it! Best trans I have ever had in the race car!

There is another part number also, GM 3884617, according to Jim Schardt's prep manual. That is the number on the GM box I have. Mike likely knows this, but be careful purchasing one by the part number only. There is one listed online now, showing a GM box with a handwritten number that looks correct, but the gear pictured has the wrong tooth count. This is the second time I have found a listing for this particular gear in a correct box, but the wrong tooth count. The other was on ebay.

Best regards,

Lowell

The GM PN for that 25 tooth gear is 3884617. Since I got the GM number Mike and I will have to split any you have!

And while you are looking how about 3884614? Thi is a cluster gear so it will be a bit bigger.

My Local trans shop has 3 of the 25 tooth clusters on the shelf. The input gear is easy.

I have a couple of the GM 3884614 clusters (NOS) also, along with a couple of the input gears. It is the 25 tooth 3rd gear that is the tough one to find. I have one NOS. I am not selling it right now, but it may be for sale in the near future. Purchased it some years ago, wasn't cheap.

Best regards,

Lowell
