Question for paint experts..

So, I'm redoing my heater control pod. Carefully sand blasted it. came out fine. De-greased it and repainted it using VHT satin Epoxy. It looked great...

Let it dry for three days. Then it was time to use my white reset lettering pen from McMaster-Carr, which I believe is a form of acrylic paint. that's where things went South!

It looks like the 'pen' softened the paint a bit and the result is that when I went to wipe off the extra, one, it dulled the satin black and slightly lightened it and two it seems to have contaminated the white so it looks off color.. Not happy...

What did I do wrong and what can I do to either fix it or re-sand blast and use a different paint..?

Thinking about trying 'White out' but not sure about how long it would hold up.

I did the knobs and they came out real nice with the lettering pen.

Sounds like incompatable paints.
IF that is the product you used, it appears to be Lacquer based, judging from the name of it.
Lacquer has a high solvent content!
Considered a "Hot" product by those in the painting field.
Not surprising that it softened-up your other paint. sad smiley

It takes paint 30 days to dry unless you bake it. Use a lacquer paint over a coat of self etching primer. Allow it to dry for at least 14 days before you handle it.

What temperature do you bake it at and for how long?

What do you tell the wife while you're using her oven? winking smiley

I don't tell the wife anything, because I do it when she is not home. I place things on the door with the oven set at 300 degrees Fahrenheit, and turn it every 15 minutes so it doesn't get too hot. The first time I did this was in 1959 when I painted the steering wheel on my 1955 BelAir convertible.
