Heated Seat Kit?
Posted by: kenzen ()

Anyone out there install one of the fleabay heated seat kits into stock seats? It looks like they are about 30W a seat (2.5A), so it wouldn't be too hard on the alternator.

After driving around today and not enjoying the smell of the the heating system, I was thinking that (with some warm clothing on) might be enough to make moderate cold days comfortable. The heated seats in my wife's minivan work quite well, but I'm using them along with the engine heat.

Both of our KIAs have heated and AC seats.

The heat is an absolute gift to our backs.

Not to mention the the heated wheel on the KIA and heated grips on the BEEMER bike.

Boy am I getting old or what?

A couple of our cars have heated seats. I find them nice under leather covering, no use under cloth seats. If the aftermarket systems are of the same quality as the aftermarket inflatable lumber supports - I would pass.

Seat heaters should be fine under fabric seat covers as well. Many, in fact most Subarus have heated cloth upholstered seats.

I used the Dorman 628-040 Universal Seat Heater Kit that is available on rock auto and Amazon for less than $40.00 per side.. My wife is very happy. I tried the slip-on and those didn't work well enough.

I removed the seat cover and slipped these right in.

I had the dealer install them on my 2009 Camry before delivery.
They are still working fine. My wife insisted on them. They are great for warming you up before the heater kicks in. The car has cloth seats.

Working at the dealer shop I've noticed that women especially, will spend what ever it takes to fix their heated seats! (the parts seem to be priced with that in mind too)

Installed a pair off of Amazon in the Lakewood when I was reupholstering the front bench. They work well. I believe they are "water carbon" brand. Had to make the wiring harnesses longer, but all in all, it wasn't hard. If I can figure out where to put the rocker switches, the back seat will get them as well.

Agree with Paul. My 2012 Flex had heated Cloth seats - still worth it, here in the Midwest. Pretty much on anytime its below 32 outside. ~250k miles and zero heated seat issues. The new flex has heated leather....which means I use it more - that leather is COLD in the morning.

Wow. I've got heated seats in all four of my primary vehicles and have had them in other past cars.

My wife and I NEVER use them. We dress for the weather.

I had seat heaters installed in my daily driver. The bench seat was recovered in cloth and they work great! The gas heater compliments them along with the forced air heater. My 61 has been on the road for 31 months with a total of 34.5K in the Chicago area.....

Guess he was wrong.
When I was driving over the road in minus 14 weather with the truck heater putting out air about as warm as my breath, and being properly "dressed for the weather", in a full-on Winter Parka, I was very GRATEFUL for my heated seats!

I enjoy my heated seats in my 2018 Silverado and 2015 Malibu. Silver's also has heated steering wheel that is nice.

But what is better down here in the south and used more is the air conditioned leather seats in the Silverado. Leather seats in Malibu needs the air conditioning. Have to keep it in the shade or towel wrap the seat when in town.

No, your BIL was not wrong. I've lived here 68 years.
It gets cold here. Not minus 14 very often, but a few years ago it was minus 20F.
This Friday's HIGH temp is forecast to be +18 with an overnight low of +6. My chickens will be shivering in their coop. eye popping smiley

We just choose not to use seat heaters because they seem uncomfortable to us.
For us, it's our feet and ankles that get chilled, not our butts. Forced air heaters never seem to remedy that.

We usually dress for the weather as if we're expecting a breakdown (except on hours-long trips).
Having older cars taught us that long ago.

Back when I drove cars with Vinyl seats, I used to simply put a bath towel on the seat bottom.
In the summer, on warm days, it kept me from burning the back of my legs especially when the top was down.
In the winter I brought it into the house so it would be warm when I went out in the morning and placed it on the seat. It worked well for me.
When it rained, the towel came in handy to keep my lap dry since convertibles sometimes had a tendency to drip when wet.
To this day, I like to carry a towel in my convertible. I usually choose one that matches or compliments the interior color.grinning smiley
P.S.
I have learned that my favorite seats are covered with fabric. I use a large towel to protect them when my clothes are not as clean as they should be.
