500 model with 140 and 4 speed was the cheapest Corvair with horse power. Turbo only came with Corsa model. So cash strapped people opted for 140 4 speed in 500 models.

The 140HP came with a 3-spd if you didn’t order the 4-spd option.

I saw the chrome for the heater control behind the steering wheel, and thought for a minute it was a telescoping column lever.

I bought a 1966 500 from the original owner who ordered it with 140, 4-speed, 3.27 posi, F41 suspension and quick steering. It was a blast to drive. I wish I had kept it.
