I found that article. It's hard to believe they are that cheap to fix but good news.
What would a broken sign like this be worth?

It's "worth" whatever someone is willing to pay. I'll give you $20, dirt and all, plus pay shipping.

I had a neon sign collector tell me that my Corvair by Chevrolet sign which is the same as yours was worth around $2000 back around 2001. My sign is a pristine, documented original and at that time likely not ever even used (I got it in the original chicken wire and wood slat crate with shipping documents to a local Chevy dealership). I have since purchased a solid state transformer, mounted it in a shadow box in my shop and have operated it some. Not sure how accurate his value estimate was or what the market has done since but that is what he said.

The values drop when you change components such as the transformer. The serious neon collector wants the sign to be all original. A good neon tube bender can replicate the glass, but not the transformer or the stand offs/mounting hardware.

Food for thought. If you don't care about the value and the glass is already broken, and you just want it to light up, there are LEDs that are on a flexible circuit board that you could thread through.

I still have the original transformer. The wiring in it is old and cord is dry-rotted, but, it could be restoredsmiling smiley
