FM radio compatability
Posted by: gwrench ()

I'm hoping to find an fm radio that will fit my 65 Monza without butchering the dash. I'm a cheapskate too, btw. Do the 2 post radios from 60's and 70's era GM cars have the same physical size? Any to avoid?

I expect to do some adapting with wiring so not overly worried about that.

Find a fm converter. Hook up power & ground. Hook antenna to converter and supplied short antenna cable to converter and am radio. Select about 1400 on am radio and tune in your fm station. Still mono though.

67-28 Camaro will fit and look correct.
But I think those cost more than the Corvair factory radio would.

In years past, I modified the Corvair face plate so an AM/FM 8 track would fit.
It did not look too bad.

You have to find one with adjustable knobs that will go wide enough.

I've found a whole list of radios made just for the Corvair such as including FM, Bluetooth, Cassette, and CD, etc . I've seen radios imitated to look like the original that include the FM option. Several Corvair venders offer most after market radios OR you can find them on ebay. And I would be surprised if Clark's don't have them.

We have a great Panasonic radio and amplifier we will mount hopefully this summer in the Coupe. We will be doing an under dash radio mount with it. This radio has remote and Bluetooth.

We will use a Scosche UDEB Universal Under Dash or Ceiling Mount Single Din Radio Enclosure ($11.98). Best way to go without tearing up dash or paying $300 dollars for a radio only.

There's millions of these floating out there. Did you say cheap? China( if you dare) 2 to 4 month waiting period. You get what you pay for.... I ordered from 4 different sellers in China for welding drive wheels just to check quality. The 2 month waiting period came with no deliver and fake tracking #'s and I challenged each one of them through ebay support and luckily got refunded!! I buy no more items from China!! Take your time, there's a radio out there just for you....grinning smiley

Bought this off eBay for a Vairy reasonable price.
It's AM/FM Stereo with push-button tuning and has a perfect appearance from the era.
A bit of mod-work on the original chrome faceplate will complete the look.

PS - It also plays 8-Track tapes!
