My 1964 Corvair Monza Record Of Improvements
Posted by: 64CorvairMonza ()

Hey all:

Since I figured out how to post photos from my host site, I thought I would post photos of my recent find! I bought this from a collection and actually it was one of the last in this man's collection except for a few dragsters from his days of NHRA participation. He said he holds the record time for Corvair drag racing. Anyway, here's my 1964 Corvair Monza w/ 37,000 miles on the ole ticker so far. Thanks for looking. Scott

Thank-You Larry. I want to change out that carpet for a red carpet to lighten up the inside a bit. I also want to get red kick boards as well. I really need to polish up that #922 Ember Red paint. And I'm pretty sure it's a repaint as it don't appear to have a coat of clear on it. It's taking to rubbing compound very well. I also found a site where i can still get #922 Ember Red touch up paint from the 'pen', spray can, 1 oz. or 2 oz. touch up bottles with a brush, all the way to quarts and gallons. I like companies like that!!

The items I am waiting on so far to complete my 3 tasks are....
FOUR of these beauties coming from Hawaii!!

A pair of these side mirrors should set this baby off and give er' some balance...

Steering wheel adapter for my 1965 from Seth Emerson so I can fit this beautiful wood steering wheel on!

I bet these Corvair engines can really fly!! LOL

I am looking for ONE or TWO piece interior carpets for my 1964 Corvair if anyone finds a link, please pass it along.IF a TWO piece, I want the two halves to overlap with no exposed floorboard, for a cleaner look. Thanks!

OH, and I could not find a replacement for the 'floor shifter delete plate' so I made my own. I will use a bead of gasket sealer to seal it when I install it before I do a complete floor undercoating again.

Nice 64.

It think it's been repainted.
1964's had black engine compartments and light gray splatter trunks.

The aftermarket antenna and mirror are giveaways as well.

You may want to check your paint code on the engine compartment tag to see what the original color was.

The black paint on the rear fake vents indicate it may have been a Tuxedo black car originally.

Here's my tag and I thought the owner told me the original color is RED or #933 Ember Red. That would be interesting to find out differently.. Hmmmm, let's see..

Another give away to repaint is the trunk lid would have had "CORVAIR" lettering along the front edge, so either the holes were filled in or the lid was replaced. You may want to consider replacing the fuel filter with plastic housing to one with a metal housing.

You think that's bad, what do you see on the car in this photo that may require a pilots' licence LOL and yes, dang thing left me some holes to fill!!!! Dayam' kids anyway!!!!! I look at that red paint in the engine compartment and I swear it looks and feels like the factory coat! The outside is worse that a cheap Mayco paint job and that 65' Impala I posted earlier? That is a $1000 Mayco paint job and it is immaculate!! I doubt the Corvair was sprayed with clear after the paint or was even mixed with clear. Luckily it will pass as a street cruiser and something to be admired at small city parking lot gatherings until I find a reasonable paint shop. And I think too much black in that engine compartment is too dark in there. That is why I'm going with read carpet in the interior now. BTW, I'm in the hunt for a really nice rear rack!!

Actually I like to see what is flowing towards my carbs and will install one of these... AFTER I flush my tank.. They are my favorite!!

And I am thinking that someone omitted the letters to make the front look like an old T-bird the more I look at it. I must get out my DA sander and fix that!!!

Nice car. Even with its unique changes.

If you think about putting the letters on the trunk hood/lid, I have a set of NOS 64 letters available.

You should replace the fuel line from the fire wall to the fuel pump with the stock metal line. The inline fuel filter (like your glass one pictured) is then installed between that steel line and the under car line at the junction in the left rear wheel well. This keeps rubber fuel parts from heat radiated off the engine. Note GM did not put ANY rubber in the fuel system in the Corvair engine compartment. They did that for a reason.winking smiley
